Chapter Eleven

The week seemed to drag on without Starfire's bubbly personality. I had invited Raven to join my group since she lost her best friend. The five of us did everything together and I couldn't help but pity Barbara. She was the only one left who wasn't in our group.

As I walked down the hallway I heard someone crying in the music room. I opened the door slightly trying to see who it was and to my surprise it was Barbara.

I walked into the room and sat behind Barbara.

"Hey, I know you don't like me too much, but are you ok? It's alright to cry in front of everyone."

"Zatanna. I wish you didn't have to see me like this."

"If you need to talk, I'm here."

"My, m-my m-m-mom d-died!"

"Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry."

"She didn't even deserve it. First Starfire, and now her. I feel so useless. If only I was there in time I could have saved them. Both of them."

"Everyone wishes we could save them. But sometimes terrible things happen to really amazing people. And we can't do anything to stop it."

"Why? Why are you doing this? I've been nothing but mean to you."

"This week has put things into perspective for me. I think everyone deserves a chance to be a good person and from Dick has told me, you really are one behind that facade."

"Thank you. I needed this."

"Of course. Why don't you sit with me and the rest of the girls at dinner tonight?"

"Are you sure? I'm not exactly on good terms with them."

"No, but I am. And I'll tell them what happened here. Don't worry."

And sure enough when dinner came, the rest of the girls understood. We all had forgiven each other for any insults mentioned before and now were acting like best friends.

Days past, then weeks. I was getting anxious. I had dates here and there with Dick now and then and they were all truly amazing but I can't help but believe that I won't get chosen as his bride.

And then out of the blue, a certain day came and no one saw it coming.
