A Grayson Selection (Young Justice- Chalant Fanfic)

Chapter Thirteen

Days after the battle against Trigon, Raven had fully recovered and decided it was best for her to drop out of the Selection. Megan and Raquel had decided to do the same claiming they were homesick.

And so, the Selection was down to three representatives: Artemis, Barbara, and me.

And with the top three girls in tow, the time for Dick to choose a bride was rapidly approaching.

The three of us were eating lunch when the announcement was made.

"Hello representatives! This is Dick's younger brother Tim speaking! Tonight, please report to the stage after dinner and wear pretty dresses. Dick will be going on a date with each of you and then he'll make the decision about his bride. Good luck to everyone!"

All three of us eyed one another in utter silence.

"I wish you guys good luck! Dick will be lucky to have any of you guys be queen." Barbara said.

"Good luck to you too. And I'm sure Dick will be lucky to have any of us as queen." Artemis said.

"Group hug! If any of us become queen I'll root for you guys! I'm glad we're all able to be friends!" I said.

We all hugged one another then made our way back to our rooms to prepare for tonight.

I decided to take a nap after writing yet another letter to my parents.

When I woke up it was already time for dinner. I took a hot shower letting the warm water relax my muscles.

I changed into a navy blue ballgown and slipped on a pair of black heels.

Dinah had curled my hair while Ivy and Harley were doing my makeup. Harley granted me a silver bracelet to wear.

"I want you to have this. It belonged to my mother, and I don't have a daughter to pass it on to, but you're the closest thing to a daughter for me Zatanna."

"Harley, I don't know what to say. Thank you. All of you."

I hugged all my maids and gave them tight hugs.

And with that, I made my way to the dining hall for dinner.

I saw Artemis wearing a dark green gown and Barbara wearing a black gown.

"You ladies ready?"

"Ready as I'll ever be."

We made our way to the stage together and sat down in the seats. The royal family appeared on the stage with Dick.

Dick began to speak, "Hello, it is time for me to take you all on your dates. I'll first take Artemis."

Artemis made her way towards Dick and they left the stage together.

Barbara and I sat down and kept each other occupied until Artemis came back with Dick.

"I'd like to take Barbara next."

Barbara exited the stage with Dick.

"Tell me everything. What happened? What did he say?"

"It was just like a normal date. And he didn't mention anything about the Queen."

"Hmm."

My mind wandered far away. This was my only chance to help my parents. It was surprising that I even made it this far, but now that I'm here, I can only picture myself by Dick's side and being his queen.

I was interrupted by my thoughts when Dick was face to face with me waving a hand in front of my face.

"Zatanna? You there?"

"Ya sorry. What did you say?"

"It's time for our date."

"Oh, of course."

I stood up and linked arms with Dick and we exited the stage. He led me towards the oh so familiar blue flowered garden.

"I wanted to take you back to the place where we first shared a connection."

"Dick, I don't know what to say."

"Don't say anything then. Come here."

He pulled me into an embrace and as if on cue, a slow song started playing in the background.

"Garden speakers, you like?"

"I love!"

We stayed like this for awhile, swaying to the music, not caring about anything else in the moment.

"Zee, how are you doing?"

"Honestly? I'm nervous. I'm pretty sure I like you, actually no, I love you. But I'm a contestant and there are two better options for you back at the stage. I want to be your queen, if not for love, then to help my mom."

"I'm glad you told me the truth. I already decided who my queen will be so we should head back to the stage."

We walked back to the stage and Dick pulled me up on the stage.

He knelt down in front of me holding the biggest diamond ring I've ever seen.

"Dick... what are you doing?"

"Miss Zatanna Zatara. Will you do me the honor of becoming Mrs. Zatanna Grayson?"

"Yes."

"Yes?"

"Yes!"

I jumped up and crushed him with a hug and I fell on top of him causing my lips to land on his. When I pulled away, I felt my face flare up in embarrassment when Barbara, Artemis, and the royal family began clapping and cheering.
