I looked up at my dad, and started thinking about Connor, my baby brother.
"We should get to bed." my dad said between sobs. "I'll prepare a sleeping area," I said
I walked towards the closet, getting out some blankets. My dad covered up the windows, and moved some furniture in front of the door. I spread out the blankets on the floor, along with some pillows.
"Do you think we'll make it?" I asked.
"I'm sure we will."my dad said. "Let's not think about that right now." He said while drifting off to sleep. I blew out the candle, and fell asleep.*Carl's P.O.V.*
I was walking toward my cell when I heard a faint scream. "Carl! Carl! Carl come here. Hurry!" my dad yelled.
"What's the matter? Dad! What's going on?!" I screamed
He was on the floor, and walkers were surrounding him. I had just realized I left my gun in my cell. My eyes scanned the room, looking for a weapon. My dad's gun was across the room.
"Grab my gun!" he shouted.
I grabbed the gun, and started shooting. The last one was on top of him, and I was afraid I would miss and shoot him. I grabbed the walker's shirt, pulled him off my dad, and shot him multiple times."Thank you son. Now you go get some rest" he said "Hold on. How did those walkers get in here?" I asked
"There must have been a hole in one of the fences." he replied.
I started walking to my cell, and then I laid down on my bed. "I wonder how much longer I'll be here, on earth, alive. How much longer my family and friends will be here..." I thought.
*Carter's P.O.V.*
I woke up to the sound of an opening can. My dad was eating some peaches. "Want some breakfast?" He asked. "Sure, I'm starving." I replied.
"Maybe we could make this a permanent home. We could live here. We would need to get more supplies, but we can finally be safe." He softly said.
"We can't be safe! And we never will be. Right when we think we're safe, something happens. We risk our lives, just by being here." I cried
"I'm sorry Carter, but we have to at least try. We're lucky we're even here." He replied
We started to finish up the canned food. I heard walkers moaning, and then I panicked.
"Dad! Dad! Can you come here." I said as quietly as I could.
"Carter? Are you okay?" He asked.
He grabbed his gun, then handed me his knife. "You can do this Carter." He whispered in my ear.I can do this. I can. I haven't made it this far just to fail.
We ran out of the back door. Some of the walkers turned their heads around, looking at us. "You ready?" My dad asked
I nodded, and then followed his lead. He pulled another knife out of his pocket, and then started to stab the walkers.
One came near me, and then I tried to stab his head. I missed, and fell on the ground. Pain shot up my right arm. I stood up, and stabbed the walker's head. I tried to pull the knife out, but I was too weak.
"Dad? I need help!" I shouted
I looked over and saw him on the ground surrounded by walkers. I got up, and they started walking my way. I struggled to find a weapon. My dad tossed over his gun, and I picked it up.
"AHHHH!" I screamed. I pulled the trigger, missing every shot. I didn't even know how to correctly hold it. I started to shoot, and I actually wasn't missing.
Once they all fell limp, I ran to my dad. "DAD?!? DAD?!" I screamed
He didn't respond. I put my ear against his chest, and he was still breathing. I slung his arm around my shoulder, attempting to help him back to the house.
