Ch. 8 Lucky

*The next day*

"Carter, wake up.." Carl whispered. "We're about to go in the supply run."

"Already?" I asked. "Yes, already." he replied. I slowly got up, and grabbed my gun and knife.

"Rick, where do you keep the ammo?" I asked in a sleepy voice. He handed me some, and nodded.

Daryl, Glenn, Rick, Carl and I were getting ready to go into the car, but then we heard Lizzie screaming.

"Stay here. I'm gonna see what's going on." said Rick. We all looked at each other, wondering what was happening.

Over fifteen minutes passed by, and I was getting worried. "When is he gonna come back?" I asked.

"I'm not sure. Should we see if everything's alright?" asked Carl. "c'mon carl, let's see what the hold up is." Daryl replied.

As they walked away, I became more worried. "What do you think is going on?" I asked.

"I don't know..." said Glenn. I was tapping my feet, and thinking about what could possibly be going on.

Carl came running out, and I asked what happened. He pointed to the first cell block, then Glenn and I started to run.

We got back, and Lizzie was crying in Carol's arms. I looked down and saw the two little kids that we saw by the hole in the fence.

One of them was lifeless on the ground, and the other one had fainted. I again looked at Lizzie, and she was still crying.

Carl wrapped his hand around mine and pulled me into a hug. I was still confused about what was going on, but I didn't want to say anything.

"Don't worry, we'll take care of this." said Beth. Rick started to quietly talk to Hershel. A minute later, he said it was time to go.

We got in the car, and the ride was silent. The car stopped at the parking lot of a small store. there wasn't many walkers, so we decided not to kill them.

"Find diapers, formula, water, and any food that isn't moldy." said Rick.

Daryl tapped on the store windows, to see if any walkers were in there. When we least expected it, a few walkers started to throw their arms against the window.

Rick started to open the door, then Glenn and Daryl quietly killed the walkers. Before I stepped into the store, Carl have me a hug. "be careful..." he whispered.

"Don't worry. I'll be fine." I replied. We stepped in with our guns pointed outward. I heard a few moans here and there, but chose to ignore it.

"Yes! water!" I screamed inside my head. I started to pile them in my bag, but then I looked around me. Walkers shuffled their feet as they passed the aisles.

No one was here. "where did they go?" I thought. I started to sneak around the back, but then a walker grabbed my leg. I fell to the ground screaming. "Help! Help!" I screamed.

Carl's P.O.V.

We had gotten everything we needed, and we were heading towards the car. We didn't see Carter, so we thought she was already there.

Glenn had a terrified look on his face.
"What's wrong?" I asked. "Where's Carter?" He said in a worried voice".

We heard her screaming for help, and ran back to the store.

Carter's P.O.V.

I struggled to get my gun out, so I grabbed my knife instead. I stabbed the walkers head, causing it to fall on me. I pushed it off as hard as I could, and I got up.

I was surrounded by the walkers. They were everywhere. "what do I do?!?" I thought to myself. I climbed over the counter, and then I heard gunshots.

The walkers turned their heads in the other direction, walking towards Glenn and Rick. Carl and Daryl came around the counter.

"I thought you left me." I whispered. "We would never do that." replied Carl. I gave him a crooked smile, and then we started to shoot the walkers. Once they were all "dead" Daryl and Carl gave me a hug.

"Thanks guys." I said to them. "Well, you're a part of the group now." said Rick while he was walking towards us.

We quickly piled into the car, and drove off. The whole car ride back to the prison, I was thinking about how lucky I was.
