“We can run this town, so let’s do what we like” –Big Time Rush
You know the funny thing? It’s when I’m supposedly apologizing my ass off to this stranger, but now I can’t help it but stare at him so hard I think he would melt if this takes longer.
“So, you want to go back to the canteen?” he asked me.
“Uh...”
Oh great. Now I have a temporary brain shutdown in front of this gorgeous creature. Think, Sapphire, think!
“I got my microwave yesterday.”
What the hell, Fiere? Out of all the good things in this world, this is what you said? Now what would he think of you? Someone who dumbly considered a good old microwave as a pathetic excuse of an escape?
Much to my utter surprise, he laughed. No, not just the normal husky chuckle, but a full-blown chortle.
He pressed his sides hard as he tried to contain his laughter, yet, tears showed up on the sides of his eyes.
I raised my eyebrow at him. “You done?”
“I never expected myself to have such an effect on a stranger.”
I cocked my head to the side on this. “Okay, evidently egotistical maniac, what’s your name?”
He reached his hand out for me to shake. “I’m Jonathon. Call me Nate.”
“Sapphire here. More known as Fiere,” I slapped his hand.
The slight movement caused sparks to shoot up my arm. Huh, what was that about?
“Hey, why were you running by the way?” I enquired.
He simply shrugged. “Meh, I was just about to check the time, since the canteen’s nearly deserted and a friend of mine pushed me into finding out what the time is.”
As he said that, I raised my hand and looked at my wristwatch. It was only twenty minutes from the start of the lunch period, so we were clearly still safe. “It’s still twenty minutes. What’s your next subject?”
“Vacant period. You?”
I grinned at him. “Vacant period too. Do you want you and your friend to come join us in our table so we could kill time?”
“Yeah, sure. I got to get my things from our table first.”
“I’ll go with you.”
He opened the glass door of the canteen and gestured at it using all his fingers in a gentlemanly-yet-jokingly manner and I got in. He followed suit, then he pointed at where his table is. I saw a brunette who was peacefully sitting on the leather chair beside it, as she opened a thick novel and read it. She is wearing earphones, making her successfully tune out the sounds of the outside world.
He hopped until he was behind her. He positioned his face at the side of her head as he forcefully laid his hands on the girl’s shoulders, while he shouted “Boo”. This caused the girl to place her book back in her bag and remove her earphones, placing them in her bag as well.
She looked at Nate with a raised eyebrow and smirked. “Wow, you’re becoming more pathetic than I thought.”
He pouted. “Ugh, you’re no fun.”
The girl then noticed me. “So, who’s your new friend?”
Nate patted my shoulder. “This is Fiere. I accidentally bumped on her a minute ago since you forcefully made me check the time.” Then he looked at me. “And Fiere, this is my friend, Vanilla. Clearly, she hates her full first name being used, so let’s just call her Nilla.”
