Food. Human food. Demetri stared at it curiously, on the plate in hand. He couldn't remember the last time he tasted it but after being turned it made him realize just how fragile human life was, constantly dependent on sustenance and balance in order to live. Vampires could go weeks – months – without drinking blood once old enough, which made them the more superior beings in their minds.
Entering the room without knocking his eyes scanned the empty room. Brows narrowing they flickered towards the bathroom catching the lingering scent of water and hearing the drip of the faucet. The vial smell of the mutts had long disappeared meaning their guest indeed washed... and once again there was no indication of her presence. It wasn't until Demetri listened closely did he find the faint heartbeat standing directly behind him. He turned quickly to find Kahlen. She stared back with a blank expression holding a decent size novel in hand. A quick glance at the cover said it was one of Shakespeare's works. Which made him wonder if she had in fact been reading or only picked it out to hold it as a weapon. Destroying such literature made him frown for a moment, setting the plate on the table in the room before growing amused by the thought of such a flimsy thing being used against his diamond hard skin.
"And what were you wishing to accomplish with that?" he wondered.
Examining the cover for a few seconds Kahlen moved towards the bookcase placing the item carefully back into place. So, she did in fact care about the novel instead of tossing the volume as if worthless onto the sofa.
"There are ten different ways to kill someone with a book. Vampires included," she added when he went to protest.
"Oh really?" his brow cocked. "Do enlighten me."
"Not interested."
Her attention moved towards the food. Even Demetri had to admit the aroma was very appealing. One of their receptionists made it in the small kitchen. The only mortal employees within the castle put on display for the tour groups brought in. Which reminded him that another one would be coming around in a few days. The tracker wondered how their guest would feel about their presence in the castle.
"I told you I'd be back with food," Demetri said.
"Like a master feeding its pet." Her eyes narrowed in disgust.
"You should be glad you're still alive. The brothers are not normally so giving. Or lenient."
"Let's get one thing straight, vampire. I'm not here of my own free will. You've taken me prisoner. And if you decide to eliminate me, I won't go down so easily like your other meals in the throne room."
How did she know about that? Obviously this young woman managed to slip under their radar for some time. She knew much more that he gave her credit for.
"Believe me, I'll take pleasure in ripping off your arms and removing your heads."
"In case you have forgotten, human, your strength could never hope to match ours. And it's one against an army. This castle is swarming with vampires. Many with gifts and the strongest in the world since they fall under the guidance of the Volturi. You'd never get out alive if that did happen."
And Kahlen bit her tongue musing to herself, That's what you think. For a moment he smirked. She wanted to do nothing more than to wipe the smug look from his face.
"Then you better make sure I'm not on your execution list," Kahlen said. "Or else."
"Or else, what, sweetheart?"
The nickname made her brow twitch in annoyance causing Demetri to smirk wider. That had gotten under her skin. Good.
"You're going to wish you never found out how cruel I can be," she said.
The young woman had spirit, the guard member would give her that as he walked from the room through the halls. This human was interesting. More so than the one belonging to the Cullens. This one possessed a fire within her that nearly made him excited to battle against her sharp tongue. Demetri had only seen a prelude of her capabilities on the battlefield against the werewolves. But they were rather slow, lazy mutts to begin with. Their speed could not match his race, and the tracker grew curious of her abilities against vampires. He was almost beginning to hope that the brothers would decide to keep her.
Noticing a figure walking towards him down the hall and thought came to mind. He approached her swiftly before the vampire could turn off into the next corridor. She was so busy reading something their seductress wasn't even aware of his presence.
"Heidi."
Head picking up the vampire smiled. "What is it, Demetri?"
He smirked. Oh, this was going to be rich. "There's something I need you to do for me on your errand run. A few items that are essential."
