It took the Guard three more days to cover their tracks in Barcelona. They used their information from Tomás and Mónica breaking into Yakov and Taras's mansion to ransack it for information taking out anyone in their path. The findings were startling, collecting all valuable documents to take back to Volterra with them. The shifters were allowed to enter as well once the vampires completed their search being sure nothing was hidden in secret rooms. The air grew tense with both sides in the same vicinity, but they tolerated each other. Or more like Kahlen watched all of their interactions in order to keep the peace.

On their last day they began to gather their things to return to the castle. Demetri made his way up the stairs to the hunter's room. He nodded to the old woman at the front desk as he passed in greeting. Upon opening the door he found the hunter packing up the last of her things. Most likely the items she kept stashed away in the room had already been handed over to the owner for safekeeping.

"I'm just about ready," the young woman stated.

"You have a package," the vampire announced.

It made the hunter pause, turning to face Demetri with a quizzical expression. He held a rectangular box not very large in size.

"What's that?" Kahlen questioned.

The tracker handed over the item to her, the hunter a bit hesitant to take it. "It came from Volterra," he answered, which was unexpected.

Tearing open the tape and peeling back covering her lips slightly parted in mild surprise, eyes widening. The expression even made the tracker wonder if everything was okay. But by the smirk and short laugh that followed, maybe it wasn't what he thought.

"Well, what do you know... I didn't expect them to actually pull through," Kahlen said.

There was a knock at the door, eyes quickly turning to the other side of the room. "I'm surprised they came," he muttered.

Opening the door the remaining three of their party filtered in. Kahlen strapped the last of her equipment in place.

"We've received a message from Aro," Jane stated. "There's a disturbance just north of the city. We've been asked to investigate before leaving."

"What's the disturbance?" Demetri questioned.

"Immortal Children."

They instantly turned serious. Immortal Children were not to be taken lightly. "How many?" Kahlen asked gravely.

"Five... as far as we know."

Cursing to herself it was clear to see they all shared the same thoughts on the matter. This could not be left alone and only hope it would go away.

"Would other hunters flock to this area?" Felix questioned.

All eyes were on Kahlen. "This sounds like a new development... they probably are not aware of it yet. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be careful."

They agreed. "How far out are we going, sister?" Alec asked.

"Two hours," the blonde answered. "Let's get moving."

Demetri walked up alongside Kahlen as the group made their way towards a deserted alleyway, causing the hunter to sigh quietly.

"I don't really have a choice, do I?" she asked.

"Unless you wish to take the train," he answered.

The young woman climbed onto his back, arms wrapping around the neck while two strong hands held the legs in place by the hips. Some of the fingers brushed against the hidden scar making Kahlen look at the side of his head and wondering if he did that on purpose. Still, it sent an unwanted feeling through her, unlike the night before where it caught her off guard. It was annoying to no end trying to ignore it and face the task at hand. Now wasn't the time for distractions.
