Surely

Met someone today,
We exchanged small talk.
Similar annoyances,
Laughed at a lot of the same things.

She's very nice,
Don't get me wrong.
But what's she been doing,
Her whole life long?

Her attitude sluggish,
And tired and lazy,
Everything she said,
Left my mind buzzing.

There was no real direction,
No real desire.
A walk without purpose,
A gaze without object.

She seemed unhappy,
Discontent and disturbed,
Yet she was too lazy,
To do anything about it.

She's settled her fate,
Set in her ways.
Too scared or too tired,
To make a necessary change.

She seemed not to care,
About a thing the world.
Now all I can think about,
Is this girl.

I left today,
Perturbed and inspired.
Restless and worried,
Desperate to desire.

My stomach is sick,
Because you know what?

She is who I am becoming.

She's who we're all,
Slowly,
Surely,
Monotonously,
Becoming.
