Chapter 14: Nightmares

Snorri Snorrelson returned from her summer vacation in her homeland and returned to the Castle to see Nicko in the winter. Although, their vacation time together has been getting longer and longer each year. Against her mother's permission Snorri had accepted Nicko's proposal. Can't my mother approve of anything I do in life? wondered Snorri.

Nicko and her have had an on and off relationship until both came to realization that they needed each other. Their personalities where different, Snorri was usually laid back and quiet and Nicko could be loud and compulsive. But they complimented each other, it took them a while to realize that. In a faraway distance the chimes stroke midnight and then all was quiet in the pier until Snorri's nightmares began.

Snorri had been sleeping in her room in Nicko's pier house. His house was small and cozy but not constricting. Night Ullr curled up at the foot of her bed purring. Snorri was twitching and throwing the blankets off in a panic.

Her eyes were still shut, she was in another nightmare about being trapped in the House of Foryx. She was running through mirror upon mirrors but every time she was sent into an even more distant past. From the starting point of 500 years ago she went back in time with each mirror.

She couldn't she what was chasing her but she had to keep running even though she didn't know what would happened when she reached the Beginning of Time. She was in a barren cold dusty plain with no vegetation and no life, only a gray ominous mirror in the distance.

Snorri looked back but saw nothing but a shimmer of a disapear-when-look pursuer. Snorri sprinted to the mirror and as she jumped through felt a cold clammy hand on her arm. She tried to pull away but she tripped and fell through the mirror. A cold wave of a nothingness void washed over her. She couldn't breath. She was falling.

"Snorri wake up!" Snorri gasped for air and she was flailing on the bed. Night Ullr had been woken when bed sheets were being tossed at him. He peered over the edge of the bed to look at his master with eyes that could pierce you.

Nicko had his hand on her arm. He had woken when Snorri began to cry out and occasionally scream. She had been doing this ever since returning from the House of Foryx. Sometimes Nicko would wake up in a cold sweat after a nightmare. He was gently shaking her to get her to wake up.

"Snorri are you ok?" Snorri looked down and saw it was Nicko who had his hand on her arm. "I have nightmares about the House of Foryx. It drove us mad, Nicko we could've still been stuck!" "Don't say that." Nicko's eyes became sad, he knew it was true but what they experienced would never been forgotten. "We just have to get through this. I'm always next door if..." Nicko's voice faded away, if you want company he said in his mind but she might not want that. "...you need me" he finished lamely.

Nicko covered Snorri with the blankets she had thrown. Snorri was truly beautiful. Her pale skin glowed in the moonlight escaping through the window. Her nightgown was more like a large blouse, she was too tall for the average girl. This forced her to wear long pants underneath. It was a strange night attire but Nicko regarded her with an unconditional love. Nicko gave her a kiss on her forehead and a sad smile and began walking out of her room.

As he reached the door Snorri called out "Nicko wait." Nicko turned around and saw Snorri getting out of her bed, her sad eyes were filled with pain and fear. "Please stay with me tonight." Nicko was surprised to hear this but obliged. He lead Snorri into his room which had a slightly larger bed than Snorri's and tucked her in. Nicko went to the other side of the bed and got under the warm blankets.

Nicko didn't want to make Snorri feel awkward so he left all his pajamas on. Snorri snuggled into Nicko's arm. Nicko wrapped his arm around her protectively. "Save me from the dreams." Her voice was of a frightened child, it hurt Nicko to see her so afraid, "I promise."

From that night on Snorri and Nicko's love overcame their fear of timelessness. A relationship was kickstarted into a future of understanding and conquering of fear.

A/N: I thought that was an emotionally chapter. Not as exciting as others but portrayed a sad understanding of their relationship. Made me want to cry.

Fact about me: I tend to cry over books a lot. Character dies, cry. Relationship dies, cry. Sad tragedy, cry. Go into stupidly dangerous situations for love, cry. So, that's me.I really hope your enjoying this book. Leave comments and vote, tell your fellow Septimus Heap friends about this book if your enjoying it. Thanks for reading! :)
