Colby and Corey both agreed that driving alone at midnight for nearly 40 minutes wasn't a great idea. I had done things like this before so I wasn't worried, but I decided I could have a fun night and hang out with these guys. I texted my older brother Austin that I was spending the night at a friend's place because my last delivery was late and a long drive, then I went out and grabbed my extra clothes from my car. I changed out of my uniform and into a pair of light blue ripped jeans, a long white tee shirt, and a plain beige sweatshirt overtop.
The night started out fun, sitting in the top of the barn and getting to know each other. They introduced me as a friend of Colby's from Kansas on their vlog. We played music and laughed and had a fun time for about an hour, and then we decided to do some exploring. I wasn't very excited, as it was cold and kind of creepy outside, but I sure as hell wasn't sitting alone in that barn.
"So guys, it's about one-thirty in the morning and we decided to go exploring, maybe find some cool stuff around here," Sam said, pointing his camera at himself. He switched it around to point at Corey, who also was afraid of the thought of walking around this place. "Corey's over here shitting his pants."
Colby and I laughed as Corey furrowed his eyebrows angrily at Sam. "You mean to say you don't think this place is insanely sketchy?!" he half-whispered.
I patted his shoulder and said in a mock comforting tone, "It's okay Corey you're totally right, this place gives me chills." Corey thanked me sarcastically.
We walked a little way down a pathway until we found an old shed. I stopped, seeing that a light was coming from inside it. "Guys, stop. Look, there's definitely someone in there!" I whisper, pulling Sam to the side. Colby was filming at the moment and zoomed in on the shed window while we crouched by a bush.
The light was probably from a flashlight or battery-powered lantern, and we could see that it was moving around the shed. Someone was doing in there. What that was, we had no idea. We sat there silently for what felt like hours but was probably only a couple of minutes. My heart thumped hard against my chest and my stomach twisted with nervousness. Suddenly, the shed door creaked open and someone stepped out. I held my breath.
We huddled close by the bushes, our lights all off while the man took a backpack off the floor from inside and made his way out, bringing the flashlight out with him. He kept his hood up, constantly looking around to make sure no one was near. I was beginning to feel as if he knew someone was here.
I clutched Colby's arm while his other attempted to film the man walking around. Suddenly, he stopped. His eyes darted to where my car sat parked. If he didn't know before, he did now. Corey looked at me in panic. 'What do we do?!' he mouthed out to us. I should my head and mouthed back, 'Hope he doesn't find us.'
"Who's here?!" he called out. I froze as his flashlight shined inside the barn, its door wide open. The guys' bags were in there.
Instead of searching inside the barn, the man began to walk back towards the shed. I continued to hold my breath as he walked past the shed towards an old red pickup truck. I had assumed it was a part of the farm, but when it started with no problem, I decided it must have been his. He drove out the long driveway and we waited until we could hear the truck speed down the road to stand.
"Thank God he's gone," Sam said, letting go of a long and shaky breath.
Corey put his hands on his head as if he was ready to pull his hair out. "Now what? What if he comes back?! Man, what if he owns this place and he's calling the cops?? I am not getting arrested tonight guys."
I laughed at his panic but I did agree, there were a lot of possibilities other than the fact that the man was just leaving. He could've been getting his friends for all we knew. We agreed to go back up into the barn and wait out the man. Maybe he was getting the hell out of there just as we had wanted to.
Around 3am, Colby gained our attention. He smirked as he pulled something out of his bag that I couldn't make out until I shone my flashlight on it. In his hands, Colby held a Ouija board. I shivered. No way in hell was I playing with that thing.
Corey jumped back. "No-o-o way man," he said seriously. "I'm not screwing with that right now. Why can't we play something fun like spin the bottle or truth or dare? Why is it always a Ouija board?" Colby laughed.
"I think we should play it. I mean the only way to find out if this place is haunted is to use it," Sam argued. He had a good point, not that I even wanted to know if this place was haunted. I kind of just wanted to get out of here before the creepy guy got back with friends.
"What even is this place anyways? I always hear about it but I have no idea of anything about it." I said, shining my flashlight at the ceiling where graffiti was painted everywhere and ropes with fake nooses were strung along the beams.
My chills grew stronger as Sam told me more about the place. Apparently ten years ago the man who owned this farm murdered his whole family due to a disagreement on selling the place. Years later when he was convicted, the house was torn down due to an infestation and the farm was abandoned. Since then, it's been famous for criminals hiding out here, people committing suicide, and even a murder that took place the year after the property became abandoned. I knew this place was sketchy but I had no idea it was that bad.
"Y'all, sorry for your luck but I'm not touching that thing. How many murders have there been on this property? Sorry but I'm not trying to be—" THUD. THUD THUD. We froze.
Corey looked at me in panic and we knew what to do. Sam picked up the camera and we quickly packed things up without a sound before scoping out our surroundings from a hole in the barn wall. I could see a man down there, peeping in the windows of my car and looking up towards the barn. A shiver ran down my spine when he opened my car door (I left it unlocked) and took out my uniform from the pizza place. Colby rested his hand on my shoulder.
Silently, we watched the man close my car door and walk around the other side of the barn. I looked from a tiny crack to make sure he wasn't hiding. Using his flashlight, he was making his way back to his shed. This was when we knew we had to make a run for it. The guys' car was parked down the road about a ten minute walk from the barn, so we decided to take my car, with Corey driving.
We jumped down the ladder silently and booked it to the car. I jumped in the back with Sam and Colby sat up front. Corey started the car and we all kept our heads down as we quickly backed up to turn around. I peeped out the window to see the man running out of his shed holding something long. A shotgun.
"GO!" I shouted to Corey just as we heard a yell from outside. Corey floored it, yanking us forwards and down the driveway. I caught the sound of a gunshot as we sped around the corner.
The driveway took me five minutes to drive down, but on the way out it only took us two. At the end, the gate was closed. "Who's gonna open it?!" Corey yelled, "We probably have one minute until he catches up!"
Me being the fastest to get out, I ran to the gate and untied the rope holding it shut, then pushed it open. I let the guys drive through, and decided to close it so that the guy would have to get out and open it as well. I could hear his truck in the distance so I slammed the gate closed and tied a messy knot. As I finished, I caught sight of his headlights down the twisty driveway.
"RUN, AGGY! NOW!" Sam belted out, opening the door of the car for me. The man had seen me and was yelling after me, threatening to shoot me. I nearly fell as I turned around, but quickly regained my footing and sprinted as fast as I could to the car. Corey didn't even wait for me to shut the door before he floored it once again and we began to speed down the road.
