We drove around for about an hour before finally going back to get Corey's car. We decided to meet up at McDonald's in town and eat and discuss things there. Sam was too tired to drive, so him and Corey took Corey's car and I allowed Colby to drive mine. We didn't talk much all night, but this gave me a chance to talk to him.
"Do you like it here?" I asked him, trying to make some small talk.
He glanced at me with an, 'are-you-serious' look on his face. "Oh yeah, love it! Apart from the whole almost-getting-shot part." He smiled. I could see his face a bit better under the streetlights now. I could make out his blue eyes and perfectly shaped eyebrows. His cheeks were chubby and when he smiled, big dimples would form. His teeth were pearly white. He was kind of perfect, which creeped me out a little bit.
"Who are you?" he asked me suddenly, looking back and forth between the road and me.
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "Aggy Bray, I told you that."
He shook his head and laughed. "Nah like, who really sre you? Tell me about yourself so this isn't as awkward as it's going right now."
I shrugged. I guess it wouldn't hurt if I told him a little bit about myself, I thought. "Well.. I'm 19 years old, my birthday is on January 1st– yes, New Years Day—"
"Yo seriously? Mine's on the second! You're exactly 364 days younger than me," Colby teased, putting his right hand out to fist bump me. I smirked and left him hanging. "Continue," he said.
"Umm... I wanted to go to school for photography but I don't have the money so I've been saving up– that's why I'm working at the pizza place. I wanted to go to UCLA. I live with my older brother Austin but my dad lives down the street from us. My mom lives in Jamaica with my grandpa. Uh, I like a lot of alternative music and rap... I don't know what else to say." I scratched the back of my neck nervously. "Tell me about you," I said.
He laughed. "There's not that much to tell. I live in LA with Corey and Sam and a few of my other friends– hopefully you'll get to meet them. I've been best friends with Sam since freshman year of high school. My favourite colour is dark blue, and I like all different types of music." I nodded. Colby seemed like a cool guy.
We didn't talk a whole lot the rest of the way there. It wasn't an awkward silence, just a calm one. I had my phone plugged into the aux cord and I was playing music quietly. A few times one of us would make a joke or say something funny that would make us laugh, but it was a pretty calm ride. I had just begun to get hungry when we pulled into the McDonald's. The second the car was in park, I jumped out and ran inside with my wallet.
After eating, we all sat outside at our cars deciding what to do. It was past 5am now, so we decided to go our separate ways. I was feeling reluctant on leaving them all; I'd really grown to like these guys after tonight. I was tired, though, and I knew they were too.
"I guess this is goodbye, Aggy," Sam said.
I gave a small smile. "You guys should take my number. Whenever you're in town shoot me a text and we can hang out," I replied hopefully. They agreed, so they all put my phone number in their phones. "I had a great night, despite getting led nearly to my death."
"Next time can we do something fun like go bowling or something?" Corey asked, making us all laugh.
We said our goodbyes and I headed home, going straight to bed as soon as I got into the house.
