AN // TBH this chapter is pretty boring it's just a filler chapter but it's kind of important so at least like skim it. Okay cool. Hope you at least enjoy it a little bit. There's a summary at the bottom if you want to just read that instead of the whole chapter :)
Betty's POV
"Elizabeth! Downstairs!" I hear from my room.
"Coming, mom" I respond.
Why did I ever come back to this house? I should've just stayed with Jughead.
I walk downstairs to see her sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee, all dressed up like she's ready to go somewhere.
"We're going dress shopping today. Your wedding is in a month and you've put this off long enough" she says.
"Mom, my wedding is in five weeks. We can go dress shopping today but give me like an hour to get ready, okay"
"Thirty minutes" she responds.
I roll my eyes and run upstairs. Once I get into my room I immediately pull out my phone and text Jughead.
My mom's making me go dress shopping! What should I do? Help!
Reluctantly I get dressed and start to put on makeup. It's been twenty minutes when I finally get a response.
Tell her, Betts. You have to.
Yeah, like I haven't thought of that.
I really don't know what to do. Knowing my mom, she'd take it hard and be judgmental. But I also know that I have to tell her at some point.
I pull my hair back into my signature ponytail and walk downstairs.
"Ready, mom" I say.
"Fantastic!" she says. "Let's go"
I open the door to see someone walking up the steps to my house. I have to do a double take.
"Jack?"
"Surprise!" he says.
"W-what are you doing here?" I ask.
"I came to see you! I missed you!" he says, embracing me in a hug.
The concerning thing is that my fiancé just hugged me and I felt nothing.
My mom appears behind me.
"Jack! Hello" she says.
"Hi Ms. Cooper" he says.
"Please, it's Alice" she responds. "Come in! Betty and I were just about to go shopping but it can wait"
"Oh, I don't want to ruin plans..." Jack says.
"Nonsense. Is there anything I can get you? Food? A drink?" she offers.
"Actually some water would be great" Jack says, stepping into the house.Jack's POV
I follow Alice to the kitchen and sit down at the table. Betty sits down next to me and Alice sits across from us, handing me a glass of water.
"So, Jack, to what do we owe this pleasure?" Alice asks.
"I just wanted to come see my girl" I say.
She smiles.
"I love you" Betty says.
"Love you too" I respond.
Alice clears her throat.
"So Jack, how far along are you in the wedding planning process?" she asks.
"Oh, everything's done. At least for me" I say.
"Good" Alice responds. "Well, I'll leave you two lovebirds alone. Betty, we're going shopping tomorrow, no exceptions"
She stands up, grabs her bag, and walks out the door.
"So, how's it been? How's Riverdale? How are all of your friends?" I ask. Not that I need to. I already know those answers.
"It's been really good. All of my friends are great. Like I said on the phone, nothing's changed" she responds.
"Hey, I was thinking, maybe I could meet them" I say.
"You've already met Archie and Veronica" she responds.
"Yeah, two years ago at Thanksgiving" I respond.
"Alright, who all do you want to meet?" she asks.
"Archie, Veronica, Cheryl, Kevin, and Jughead" I answer.
She coughs.
"Um...you want to meet Jughead. As in my ex boyfriend Jughead? You didn't even let me invite him to the wedding"
"I stand by my list" I say.
"Okay, well Kevin doesn't live here anymore. He moved to New York City. He'll be in town for three weeks, two before the wedding and one after. I guess I'll text everyone and ask if they want to meet at Pop's" she says.
"Pop's?" I ask. I know darn well what Pop's is.
"It's the diner in town. Don't you remember it from before?" she asks.
"Oh yeah. Sorry, I forgot" I lie.
She pulls out her phone and texts everyone on a group chat.
"Alright, the text is sent. Wanna move to the living room?" She asks.
"Sure" I answer.
We walk to the living room and sit down next to each other on the couch. I can tell that Betty feels awkward.
"So, how's California? What have I missed?" she starts.
I have no clue how California is.
"Not much. Same old, same old" I respond.
"Interesting" she says sarcastically.
"I missed you a lot" I say.
"I missed you too" she replies.
I lean in for a kiss. It's been three weeks since we kissed but I can tell this is different. There's no love or passion. It's not like making out with a fiancé. I pull away and smile, as if everything's normal and okay.
"I should probably check my phone. See if anyone's replied" she says, standing up. She walks into the kitchen and I stay on the couch.
"Everyone can make it except Cheryl" she yells from the other room. "We're meeting them in ten minutes"
"Alright, let's get ready" I respond.
Betty runs upstairs to fix her hair and makeup even though it looked fine. After five minutes passes she comes back downstairs.
"Ready" she says with a smile.
"Let's go" I respond.
We get in the car and start heading towards Pop's. For some reason I'm not nervous at all. Not even to meet Jughead.Summary // Jack visits Betty and wants to meet her friends, including Juggie. They all agree to meet at Pop's. Both Betty and Jack can feel that there's almost no chemistry between them anymore. Oh and Kevin lives in NYC but he's coming back to Riverdale for three weeks, two before the wedding and one after.
