Jack's POV
I follow Betty into the house and close the door behind us. We both take off our jackets and walk to the living room to sit down on the couch.
"So, you and Jughead hit it off" she says.
And as bad as I wanted to say something about the picture, I kept it inside.
"Yeah, he seems like a cool guy" I say.
"I'm glad you think so" she responds.
For a second there's just silence between us, but then it looks like a lightbulb goes off in Betty's head.
"Oh my gosh, babe, I forgot to tell you! There's this black van that's been following Veronica and I around town. We have absolutely no clue who it is, but I was at Archie's house and the guy got out of his car and tried to get me. It was so scary!" she tells me.
"What did he look like?" I ask.
"It all happened really fast so I can't really remember and plus, he did a good job at covering his face. But he did have light brown hair, just like yours" she answers.
"Weird" I respond. "Well, I'll protect you at all costs. I love you"
"I love you too" she says, leaning in for a kiss.
We're kissing, but there's no love, no passion, no chemistry. I know that she feels the same way.Jughead's POV
I wake up to someone knocking on my door and look outside to see that the sun is just starting to rise. Who's awake this early?
I climb out of bed and walk to the door. I open it and Betty steps in, throws her arms around me, and starts kissing me. Of course I kiss back, what am I supposed to do?
Eventually she's the one that pulls away.
"Good morning" she says.
As much as I enjoyed our moment, I can't match the smile she has plastered on her face.
I close the door and meet her eyes.
"Betty? What are you doing?" I ask.
Her smile fades away.
"What do you mean?" she responds.
"What do I mean? I mean that your fiancé is in town, at your house right now if I had to guess, and you're at my house at sunrise, making out with me!" I scold.
"Look, Jack and I's chemistry is gone. Everything in our relationship is fake. But what you and I have is real! I don't love Jack!" she says.
"That doesn't give you the right to sneak out to other guys houses in the morning and make out with them. You need to tell him, Betty. You need to tell him and you need to tell your mom. Your wedding is in less than five weeks. You're running out of time" I tell her.
A single tear rolls down her face.
"It's so hard" she says. "I'm supposed to love him. I said yes. I'm wearing a stupid ring. Why can't I feel anything?"
I embrace her in a hug.
"You just have to get it over with, Betts. Rip of the bandage. And you'll feel so much better" I say.
"Thank you. For being here. For helping" she says into my shoulder.
"Anytime" I respond.
"I'm supposed to go dress shopping today" she says.
"Then today's the day you should tell them. You can't drag it on too far" I suggest.
"I know" she replies.Cheryl's POV
I walk outside to get the mail when I see a copy of the Register laying in my driveway. I never get the town newspaper, why did I get it today?
As I walk closer, I can make out the face on the front page.
It's Betty's.
I start running to see why she's possibly on the front of the town newspaper. Finally I see the headline.
Betty Cooper calling off engagement with fiancé?!
Oh my god. Is this actually happening? I run inside and grab my phone. I dial Jughead's number as fast as I can and put the phone up to my ear.
"Come on! Pick up!" I whisper.
After ringing three times he finally answers.
"Hey Cheryl" he starts.
"What the hell? How could you run this story?" I whisper-yell.
"What story?" he asks.
"Oh please! The one about Betty calling off her engagement!" I say.
"Wait! What are you talking about?" he asks, panicked.
"The headline on the Register is about how Betty's calling off her engagement! You and Alice are the only ones who work at the Register and I want to know who ran that story!" I say.
"I have no clue! It wasn't me and Alice one hundred percent thinks they're getting married" he tells me.
"We can't let Betty or Jack see this!" I say.
"How are we going to do that?" he asks.
"Do you know where Betty is?" I ask him.
"She's at my house. Don't worry, I'm in a different room. She can't hear what I'm saying" he says.
"So she hasn't seen it yet. I'll call Archie and Veronica. We'll try our best to get all the copies, but I don't know if it's possible" I say.
"I'll keep Betty here. But go fast!" he says.
"Will do" I respond, right before hanging up. Immediately I call Veronica. It's 6:30, but she usually gets up early. She picks up almost right away. I fill her in as fast as possible, and then we put the plan in action.AN // This was yet another kind of boring chapter but the next one will have lots of drama so get ready. Please vote and comment and let me know what you think and vote if 6:30 is way too early for you to wake up!
