In the morning I woke up alone. I listened to morning rattling and sat up. From the way back I could see Lenny's head still driving. What time is it?
I crawled over the three back seats and looked at the dashboard. 8:34am
The sky looked bright but Lenny on the other hand looked tired and worn out. Not a moment after that thought Lenny turned off the car. I moved as he went to the back trunk. Then watched how he slumped down on the ground and threw the blanket over himself.
Yesterday's argument straight out made me feel bad. You have to help him Lenny, even if that means doing something you don't like. He laid there motionless as I climbed into the trunk with him "You know... I feel bad."
There was silence.
"And well." I said stretching out the words but I had gotten no response.
He faced me but his eyes were closed.
I ended up getting under the blanket
He turned his back to me, facing the other way. I quickly intervened. "What's the matter?" I poked him . Lenny then sat up. "Get away from me." He pulled the blanket away and looked at me with his baggy eyes. Scooting from me, he faced the other way and laid with the blanket. the birds chirped outside the van. I sat staring at the wall thinking if I blew my chance to be his friend and go home.
