I fall to my knees at the ashes. I don't cry, I don't even react. Not until I read a note left on the ground. It was meant for me. It was where Jhase and I sat on the porch swing. I shiver and hold my shoulders. I try not to cry. I pick up the note with shaky hands. I lift it to my eyes and take a deep breath. IT reads,

WE TOLD YOU RUNNING WAS POINTLESS.

Its scratchy handwriting could only be from the suits. I Stand up and crumple the note. I look up into the sky and scream. I scream until my throat hurts then I scream more. They hurt my Jhase. MY JHASE. I take a steadying breath. I hear a whimper. I turn slowly to the sound. A little hand is trying to reach through the rubble. It's moving. I rush over and pull back the rubble. I let myself cry as I say the name.

"Savanna." She is crying and whimpering. She is signing and pointing like crazy. I hold her close and rock her. I am wearing her brothers shirt, which is ironic. Like the universe playing a cruel joke. "It's okay Savanna." I coo to her. She is calming. She points toward the back of the house. I lay her gently on the ground and walk around. Its all charred and still smoldering. I look at my feet. I let out a sob and fall to my knees. Jen and Mollie are lying there, dead. They are not burnt. However, there are two bullet holes on both sides of their heads. An eye for an eye. I kill an agent. They kill a little girl. Sick little men. Disgust fills my eyes.

I run back to Savanna as a steady rain pours down. Same as my mood. I think. I'm really done. They killed five people who meant the world to me. Mother. Dad. Jen. Mollie. And Jhase. I look forward with determination. Tears fall down my face. I Take Savanna's hand and lead her down the hill. Our hair is sticking to our foreheads. Savanna is whimpering and I am a stonewall. No emotions. Nothing. Only that I must protect this little girl holding my hand. Run. I am coming to kill you just like you did to the only family I have ever had. I send a message to the suits. They had better listen.

I whisper a silent promise to the sky. "For you Jhase."

                                                                         THE END
