"I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were still here." I swallow the lump in my throat, my cheeks begin to flush a tint of red. "I was sent back, too much of a liability apparently." He smirks, I bite my lip softly. I had always been nervous to talk to Bucky. I twirl my thumbs awkwardly as he sits up in his bed. "What happened?" He asked I frown slightly not knowing if I should tell him about Jess and Elijah. After all, he classes Jess as his little sister.
"I.. got into a fight with Peter." We fight a lot, Peter and I so it was a believable excuse. "Again?" He asks, raising his eyebrow. I've known Bucky long enough to class him as the family but there's just something about him that I cannot get over. I nod ever so slightly, taking a deep breath and open the door "Yeah, yeah just a fight that's all.." I smile, he must know I'm lying from the look on his face but he just shrugs "You're stronger than him, kick his ass." I laugh and shake my head "he has powers, I don't.. on that note, I'm gonna go... I'm so sorry for disturbing you." I back out the door backwards before hearing him reply with "no problem Cal." I close the door behind me, my hearts pounding. I shake away the feeling and head down the corridor. I need to find Jess.
It takes me a while but I eventually find her in the library reading one of her novels. I sit beside her, pushing back the feeling of wanting to scream at her. She glances at me and smiles softly. "Hay." Is all I get before she returns to her book. I sit there for a few more minutes tapping my foot. You could hear a pin drop from how silent it was. "So.." I start, not knowing what I should really say next. She glances up from her book again, "hm?" She obviously doesn't know it was me that saw, but then I remember she was trying to tell me something. "What is it you wanted to tell me?" She frowns, then puts the book down saving the page she was on. "Yanoe how we always talked about what kind of powers we would have if we had them?" I nod, not sure why she brought it up. "Well I may have them.." her smile gets bigger as she continues, "it just happened randomly, watching my dad train. Then when he left I went into the training arena and was messing about but then this thing happened and I can spit venom and I can climb walls and it's so cool!" I stare at her, she's looking at me for praise but all I can feel right now is hate. Why am I the only one that doesn't have powers? Elijah already goes on missions, Jess will be trained to go on missions. I'll be left alone.
I get up, "congrats." I say spitefully. I would've been happy for her if it wasn't for the fact she and my brother are together and haven't told me. I turn on my heels and walk out. "Callie wait?!" I hear her shout but I ignore her, I start to run. I wanted away with it all but where do I go. Can I run away? They would surely find me.
I slow when I reach the training room, it's dark. No one's using it. I walk in slowly wary of anyone being in there. Maybe if I don't have powers I can try training too fight and be like Natasha. I look at the punching bag and push it a few times. It's hard and heavy. My fragile hands surely won't do any damage too it. But it's worth a shot.
I begin to punch the bag, grunting at every hit I make. It's stinging my knuckles. "You won't get anywhere hitting it like that." The voice makes me jump as I miss the bag and fall from the force I tried too hit it with. With a grunt, I hit the floor. The voice was Bucky's, he walks over and offers me a hand. I sigh and take it as he helps me up. "I just want to be strong like you guys, it's not fair that I'm the only one that doesn't have powers or strength." I sound like a child but it's true. He chuckles and folds his arms "tell you what, how about I show you some self-defence skills. That way you can defend yourself."
"No you won't. " another voice comes from the door. This time it's my father. "She's not learning to do any of that." I frown and start to protest but he cuts me off before I can speak. "You're not becoming an agent of any sort Callie. And you are not an avenger. I'm sorry Elijah and Jess have powers but that's just how things go. And as for you Bucky, I thought you'd know better." Bucky frowns and folds his arm "so if the mansion is attacked while we're out on a mission and she's by herself. You expect her too not defend herself. That's very responsible of you as a father." I look between them, not knowing what to say. "Don't talk to me about being responsible Bucky. You almost got half the team killed with your immaturity on the field. You're not teac-" he's stopped halfway through his speech by yet another voice or voices for that matter. The team had come home and had overheard the conversation. "I think she should," Bruce says, folding his arms over his chest. "It'll be good for her to be able to defend herself, Tony. If you don't want Bucky doing it then let me." Natasha steps forward, looking in my direction and winking. I smile and look at my dad who's face looks like it's about too burst from anger. "Fine. If you're all so interested in teaching her. You can all take turns."
Clint pats his shoulder and looks over at me "It's for her safety Tony, just remember that." Tony looks at me and sighs "Are you sure you're up for this Callie." I nod folding my arms and holding my head high. In defeat, Tony throws his arms up, obviously not happy about this arrangement. "You have till your 18th birthday, Callie. If you're not trained by then or hurt yourself too much then I'm ending it and you can get a job with my company." I'm 18 in 5 months, it's going to be tough but with the rest to teach me It's definitely possible.
