Petals fall from above, caressing my face as the land. The world seems so bright as my eyes try to adjust to the environment surrounding me. I think its a field. I look up at the cherry tree towering over me and slowly sit up. I can hear a voice, it sounds like music. Sweet and subtle. I get up to follow this melody. Brushing away some vines and bushes to see a beautiful woman in a clearing, cradling a young child. The melody was familiar, to the point I could hum along with this woman of whom I had never met.
"May there always be angels to watch over you
To guide you each step of the way
To guard you and keep you safe from all harm
Loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay"
I was entranced in her voice, so soft and welcoming. I felt myself walking closer to her. I could see her hair was as bright as fire, skin light and fair with a beautiful shine to it. The way she moved with the child she carried was so elegant. Her eyes were an emerald green that sparkled in the light. She looked like a goddess of beauty. I stepped a little closer and noticed the child she carried was also a spitting image of the woman. Hair like fire and eyes as green as emeralds. They took my breath away as I listened to her sing.
"May you bring love and may you bring happiness
Be loved in return to the end of your days
Now fall off to sleep, I'm not meaning to keep you
I'll just sit for a while and sing loo-li, lai-lay"
As the song came to an end the woman lay down her child into Moses basket entwined with sticks and leaves and whispered into her ear which sounded clear as day in my own, making me jump. Pulling me from the sleep I was in. I wasn't in a forest at all, it was a bedroom. I rubbed my eyes in hopes it was my mind playing tricks. The room was basic, a bed, book shelf, desk and mirror. I got up and tried the door but it was locked. Why would the door be locked, this definitely isn't my room either. so where am I.
"I see you're awake at last." I hear this voice, taking another look round the room I notice a small security camera up in the corner. "You must be scared and confused, let me introduce myself." The voice trails off as I hear the door unlock, a young man walks in, no older than mid 20's. His hair had an auburn tinge to it, eyes were dark but noticbly green. Something about him reminded me of that woman in my dream."My name is Luther, I'm your older brother." I sit frozen in my place, not knowing what to say or how to react. Is he lying? I don't understand whats going on. "I know what you're thinking. You're confused. you must think I'm a fool and lying. I would be the same if I was in your position. Let me explain from the beginning." Luther sat at the desk which wasn't that far away from where I was sat on the bed.
"A long time ago, 18 years to be exact. My mother, the queen of the forest longed for a daughter. As much as I was adored by her and everyone around. Unlike normal royalty, only daughters can be queen of the forest. After so many attempts with my father, they soon began to drift apart and mother looked elsewhere for her dream daughter. As far as venturing out of the forest to find a suitable man. That is where she met a charming man, he made her laugh and felt safe around him. They met a few times and before you know it, they did the deed as some might say. He gave her a daughter. A daughter who was greatly waited upon by the forest. Not a day went by where she wasn't by her daughter's side. She was a beautiful little girl, a spitting image of her mother. The forest people showered her with gifts and affection."
The story he told sounded a lot like the dreams I was having ever since I was little. So familiar which made this whole situation scarier than ever. I didn't understand or better yet want to admit that I knew what was coming. There was a huge lump in my throat that I couldn't swallow or remove. Before I could stop him, he continues his story.
"Until one day the greed of man was too much to let this forest go untouched. They tried burning it down and the Queens first move to protect her children was to send them away. I went to a boarding school that was already in place, I was hidden away deep in the countryside and I was to learn the way of man. However, the daughter is what people were after. She was a gem. Her beauty not only made everyone fall in love with her, her voice never failed to turn everyone's heads her way but also the powers she held inside were ever so powerful man could use her as their greatest weapon. Hence why the Queen knew she had to grow up not knowing who she truly was and take a more mundane life. The princess was sent to live and grow with her father and his family. Until the forest one day was safe once again and she could return by her mothers side and rule the forest. I've been searching for you for a long time now Crystallia."
I shake my head almost unable to believe any of this could be even remotely true. "I'm sorry but you have the wrong girl. My name is Callie, I'm just a boring human." Luther smiles softly and nods his head "this is obviously a shock to the system and everything will be clear soon." Again I shake my head and stand up. "I already have a family. My mom is my real mom. I already have an older brother." He nods and stands up also "Elijah? Yes I know, he was created to protect you by your father. He is made from your fathers and other mothers genes and has some of you inside him to make him who he is. He is connected to you in ways you won't yet understand. Hence why you feel his pain, emotions and happiness. He was made to be his own person and be a few years older to give you that older brother feeling. so you wouldn't know any different. But in reality he is almost a twin." I sit back on the bed and put my head in my hands. This is all too much to take in and believe. almost impossible to believe. "I want to hear it from my dad. I don't have powers." He sighs and folds his arms across his chest. I look up and notice that he's covered in scars and frown. He notices my gaze and pulls his sleeves down before answering "The tablets you take everyday were to suppress those powers and make sure you came across human like. As you got older it obviously got harder to suppress them and I thought now would be the right time to tell you. Your father refused to give you back and wouldn't let you do anything or go anywhere without someone or Elijah. until last night. I also knew you wouldn't come on your own accord so the chloroform was needed and I do apologise. But you are here now. Let me show you everything you need to know." He holds out his hand to me, I shake my head in anger and slap it away standing from the bed. "I want my dad." Luther sighs and shakes his head. "Ill leave you in here till you decide to act reasonably. " He then turns and leaves, locking the door again. I scream in anger and hit the door with both my fists, feeling not only the door shake, but the ground too. It takes me by surprise and I jump back as the shaking stops. "what the.." I trail off. maybe he was right. But I don't want him to be. I just want my dad. I sit back on the bed and start to sob quietly into my hands.
I want to go home.
