REN'S POV

I strolled my way through headquarters. It was my first day officially back since the bar fight a month ago. I had my hands shoved into the pockets of my jeans as I headed towards the director's office. Typically after being reinstated, Director Jamison had some words to say to the agent.

"Oh, he's back," I heard someone grumble. I brought my attention to the agent, sending them a wide grin.

"Nice to see you too, Bitch Face Brittany," I cooed back, not bother to give her anymore of my precious presence as I continued by. I heard her huff in annoyance. I started whistling a tune as I made my way through some agents' desks. Jac was stationed at hers, flipping through some documents on a tablet. I passed by her desk, snatching up the tablet she was looking at. A short noise of protest left her mouth as I scanned the document.

"Rizal cases?" I mused, my eyes flicking up to meet hers as I raised my eyebrows. She hummed, sitting back in her seat as her eyes scanned over me. My mind flashed to our heated night. I set the tablet back down, bracing my hands on the desk as I leaned over her desk.

"No welcome back kiss?" I pouted. I received an almost instantaneous eye roll.

"In your dreams," she responded back, causing me to smirk.

"Oh, trust me, you definitely were last night," I purred out, enjoying the way her cheeks turned a shade pinker.

"Don't you have some place to be?" she asked accusingly, attempting to change the subject. I chuckled, standing up straight again and clasping my hands behind my head.

"The big man himself," I answered. "Wish me luck, 'babe'." I sent her a quick wink, turning and going to the door behind her seat.

"It's good to see you back, 'babe'." A real smile stretched over my features at her words. I didn't turn around, pulling open the door to the director's office.

"Lorenzo." I wouldn't lie if I said a shiver shot up my spine with his use of my first name.

"Director," I greeted back, closing the door behind me and not moving further into the room. The further away the better.

"It's good to have you back," he started off. "In this case, Jac will be able to carry on the case."

"Ouch, Director," I muttered, crossing my arms. "No offense or anything, but Jacka Bean actually came to me while I was on suspension," I defended myself, actually slightly insulted that the director was laying the entire case on Jacqueline. He hummed, shuffling things around on his desk.

"Come. Sit." I reluctantly followed his orders, grabbing a chair that sat opposite from him. "So, Castellano, how is your relationship status with Agent Mullen?" I raised an eyebrow, not allowing him to shock me this time with his questions.

"We are just partners," I responded truthfully. It was hard to hide the smugness in my tone, and he must have caught on.

"How intimate have you two gotten then?" I contemplated his words, trying to read how much he knew. There was no way he could know what happened two nights ago.

"Not very, like I said, we're just partners," I lied, testing the waters. His eyebrows rose, and he sat back in his seat.

"Be careful of your actions, Agent Castellano," the director warned in a deep tone. I froze, my eyes wandering over his features. Shit, I think he knows. Or at least assumes. I raised my own eyebrow in defiance as I stood from my seat.

"Aren't I always?" I questioned, watching his eyes narrow at me. I stood up, turning my back towards him as I sauntered my way to his front door.

"We both know you're not. If you get caught in any way, I will have you fired from the agency." Shrugging my shoulders in response, I exited his office. I stopped right outside the door, glancing over to Jac. It almost seems best to try to avoid her. It would throw off suspicion of the director and get him off our case. I mused to myself. As if sensing my thoughts, she craned her neck over the back of her seat to see me.

"Hey, Ren-"

"Director put me in charge of something over there. I need to go," I rushed out, cutting her off as I jammed my finger over my shoulder.

"That's... a wall. There's nothing over there," she answered skeptically, her eyes narrowing.

"On the other side of the HQ. From here. You know. Away from here," I sputtered, rushing past her and out of the room. Real fucking smooth, Lorenzo. I growled internally to myself.

I spent the rest of my time trying to avoid her. For some reason it seemed harder than expected.

"Are you okay?" the agent in front of me asked. I was talking to him about any updates on technology. I shifted my eyes back to him, sending him a nervous smile.

"Oh no, everything is fine, Agent Harson." I had been searching for Jac. She had been impairing my work all day. It almost seemed like she was going out of her way to hunt me down.

"Well, anyways, it doesn't seem like there has been much of an influx of military weaponry, more so on house-" I drones him out as I saw a familiar blonde come around the corner. She turned straight towards me, her eyes narrowing. I felt my stomach drop.

She wasn't wearing her glasses. They were clenched at her side as she stalked towards me with an angered look.

"I, uh, I gotta go," I rushed to Agent Harson, quickly whipping on my heels and taking off.

"Lorenzo!" she hissed out behind me. I picked up the pace, zigzagging my way through the building trying to lose her. I breathed out once I reached a safe area, not seeing her anywhere. I rubbed my hands down my face as I looked down at my interface clock. I had five hours before I was done with work. Eh, never stopped me before. I thought, grinning to myself as I headed for the parking garage to leave.
