I felt my eye twitch in annoyance as I took a bite out of my apple. The crisp sound echoed in the silent room as I tried to ignore Ren's stares. I chewed forcefully, attempting to keep my eyes to stay focused on the window illuminating the room with the outside world. Rolling hills went along the landscape before it gave way to a large city. More than likely a capitol.
'She's actually really hot. I don't know how I'm going to get anything done when I'll have a boner like 24/7.' The inappropriate thought drifted into my mind, causing my eye to twitch harder in irritation. 'Is she okay? Does she have astigmatism or something? That's like the fifth time I've seen her eye twitch.'
"Astigmatism doesn't cause eye twitches," I snapped, sending him a brief glare before turning towards the window again. I took another bite from my apple. Why did they decide getting to know each other would be okay? This was an awful idea.
"Did you just read my mind?" he asked incredulously. I heard his chair squeak as he sat back in his seat. I turned to raise an eyebrow, taking in a disbelieving, but amused grin that was displayed on his face.
"Yeah," I answered curtly. Watching as shock registered over his features.
"Wait, seriously? You're a Legacy?" I raised my other eyebrow, staring at him over my half eaten apple. I watched as his smile dropped from his mouth.
"Don't read my mind again," came his serious reply, his voice dropping an octave. I paused in my chewing to gaze at him in surprise.
"I'll try, right now I really don't have a choice. I have a pair of glasses that help me, and currently they have gone MIA," I responded, pulling up my weak mental barriers. My head instantly started to pound with the mental strain, and I brought my free hand up to massage my temple.
"So," my partner started off, his tone turning slightly awkward. "What's your name, partner? When did you get hired into the force? Where did they find you?"

I was heading home from work, flipping through the notes I had taken on my patients today. On any other work day, I would have taken a cab home, but it was a Friday, and I had a routine of stopping to get coffee and relaxing at the nearby park. I sipped briefly on my coffee, wishing it'd cool down quicker than what it was as I flicked through another page on my hologram watch. Patricia looks like she'll need another refill prescription of Fluoxetine soon. Maybe even an increase...I brought my cup to my mouth again, peeking over the rim to make sure I wasn't going to run into anything. My eyes scanned the streets as cars flitted by, the bottoms lit with pulsing lights. I should really get another car soon. Maybe this time I'll get one with one of those new AIs...
The park came into view, as I finished my sip, and I grinned seeing that my bench seat was open. I picked up my pace, trying to get there before anyone at the park got the idea to sit there.
I slid into the seat, sighing happily as my legs took a breather. It's Friday, why did I decide today was a good day to wear heels? I set my bag off to the side, my coffee on the other as I shut away the hologram. I threw my head back, closing my eyes as I took in a deep breath and let it out. As I brought my head back up, I fixed the glasses on my nose, grabbing my coffee once again and cradling it with both hands as I began to people watch.
My first subjects were a couple. Before them was a small baby carrier hovering in the air as the mother pushed the handle along. The man leaned down slightly to nuzzle his nose into her hair, and she looked up at him and smiled. In my personal opinion, the smile looked slightly tired and forced, but the man didn't seem to notice. Focusing my energy more so on the woman, my eyes instinctually narrowed.
