Rose's POV:

I sit on the bed in Nana's room as I hear the door slam. And I immediately know what that means. That means that Daddy is home. I resume my coloring as I sigh, trying to color in the lines.

I study the flower I am coloring, coloring the petals a light blue. That was Nana's favorite color. I miss her dearly. I hear the sound of glass crashing, then some loud yelling. My ears perk up as I look towards the half open door.

I see Daddy brush by, then stop right at the door. He wobbles over, but manages to stay standing.

"What are you doing in here...?!" Daddy yells at me, leaning against the door frame. I feel myself panic, and end up not answering. What a mistake that was.

"Rosemary! I would like an answer!" He yells again, but all I feel is numb. Too numb to answer. Silence.

"Do you not understand!? I don't want you in her room! She LEFT us. She left YOU." He shouts. I let those words sink in. She left. But....I love her...

Still numb as ever, I finally nod in reply. I stand up slowly, and gather my worn-out markers and used coloring book. I hold them close to my chest, then quickly head out the door. As soon as I walk out the scent of alcohol fills my nostrils. I then start running to my small room, not wanting anyone to see the tears spilling from my eyes.

I wish Daddy was nice like he used to be...It makes me wonder what happened...Did he just not care? Did I do something wrong? Then there's mommy... I can never make her even so much as smile...

I then walk slowly into the kitchen, seeing mommy standing over the sink, sounds of cries from her direction.

"M-mommy?" I say, walking over to her slowly. She throws something on the ground quickly before looking over at me, tears spilling out of her eyes.

I hear something metal fall onto the ground, but can't look away from Mommy's bloodshot eyes.

"G-go upstairs sweetheart..." She says before choking on her tears. I nod sadly and walk away, feeling even more numb, and head up to my bedroom. I  lay down on my bed.

"God," I say outloud, looking up at the ceiling, "If you're listening...help mommy be happy. Help Daddy be happy too..."

I slowly shut my eyes, before falling asleep, 'slowly, then all at once'.
