"What happened?!" Sam asked, worried.
"Don't fucking worry about it Sam," she growled.
"You to bruised up for dinner?" I asked.
"How'd you know she wa-" Sam started. I shrugged.
"Sure I'm starving," she smirked. I pulled out a bag of jerky I snagged from her desk, tossing it to her.
"You cheeky little shit," she said, a small smile crawled across her face. She pulled open the bag and offered Sam some. He took a handful, I took a few, and she ate a piece, tucking the rest of the bag away.
"Get some rest," she told us, pulling two bed rolls out of the massive black bag. She tossed one to Sam, and one at my face. She pulled out her beat up panda pillow pet and curled up into a ball.
She woke us up at dawn. We ate. Sat around. She read a book. Sat around more. Ate again. Sat around some more. Ate dinner around sundown. And went to bed. And we repeated. For a couple days. I woke up when I heard her scream.
"EMILY!?" I roared. Sam and Adam went to Adams to get more supplies, James and Darien went to get food. I sprinted out of the cave. She was backed up against the side of the cliff, with three large people standing in front of her.
Her nose was gushing blood, the stomach of her shirt ripped open. I ran and jumped on the back of one of them. I pounded my fist into the side of his skull. He struggled as I jumped back, shoving him into the river.
Emily had one of them pinning her arms behind her back, while she kicked the other in the face. I snuck up behind the one holding her, and ripped him off of her. She took hold of her posture, and hit the other in the face. We tied them both up. She packed her bag quickly.
We met the four on the road, they had grabbed James's truck on the way back.
"We have to go." She growled. I nodded.
"Why what-" Adam started.
"If you can't tell by his split knuckles and the amount of blood from my face it didn't end well," she snapped.
"I know where we're going," James exclaimed, holding up a silver house key.
"I thought we agreed on no parents," Emily groaned, climbing into the backseat next to me and Adam.
"It's my dad, you know he's like the coolest uncle ever." James smirked.
"I didn't know he kept hold of the old house," Emily stated, taking a couple drinks of Sam's Mountain Dew.
"I didn't either, which means no one else will either." He said. I didn't have to look at him to know he was pulling his devilish Deer family smile.
We rode through town and took a sharp turn right. We rode up the line, deeper into the canyon. We pulled off the main road towards their old house. The door was boarded up, but otherwise it was alright.
Emily walked up, ripping off the lower board. She ducked down and walked in. We filled, while James parked his truck in the back.
"Alright because it's my house I say me and Darien share my parents old room, Sam and Adam swap between the couch and my brothers room. Em, you're sharing my old room with Jesse mainly because it seems like they want him most and you can actually protect him." Jame's said.
"But-."
"But nothing. Get over your goddamned feud and help me protect every one ok." James growled. She nodded.
I walked to the back room, following her. The bed was covered in a thick layer of dust, and an empty T.V. stand sat across from it.
She dropped her bag, digging through it. She pulled out a wad of grey fabric, tossing it to me.
It was my sleeveless cowboy shirt. She used to love me in that shirt. I pulled mine off and put the one she gave me on. I saw her blush slightly as she saw me change.
