We all have them...those secret things that we must have and cannot live without. They are anywhere from foods to shoes to even sex. Many times, these indulgences can be compared to addictions and sometimes, we have no self-control when it comes filling those impulses. For some religions, we even give up our indulgences or fast for Lent, the 40 days and forty nights leading up to Easter.

So, what are your sinful indulgences? For me, it isn't anything too crazy. I love food (I'm Italian, so of course I do), preferably anything with that decadent devil named chocolate, and I smoke Newports when I am bored or stressed. Though we all know the risks of smoking and unhealthy eating, many of us still do it because it gives us a sense of satisfaction.

A little secret that I've kept somewhat hidden is that I write erotic short stories. Nothing too graphic, but something you would see on late night HBO. For a while, I wasn't very comfortable with writing them or even showing anyone until my writing career took off, but now, it's no big surprise, and I have gotten great responses from my readers. Most recently though, I've been on a shoe and clothing kick. Torrid and Fashion Bug have become this girl's new best friend. I've overloaded my closet and my credit card with trendy, cute apparel and shoes that reflect my mood and style.

I recently asked a few my friends and family on Facebook what their “sinful indulgences” were so I could gain a bit of insight and some ideas for this article. Some of their answers are tame, quirky and silly, ranging anywhere from something as innocent as reading passages from the Bible, having an obsession with reality television or children' shows, using the same pricey body wash to feel like you just came from a spa to looking through people's bathroom cabinets to see what types of medications or toiletries they use, or even going pee-pee while in the shower.

Other people's answers may be shocking and may show a darker side to this question. Some little wants turn into bigger, more serious ones. And what chances do others take to fulfill their desires? Keep in mind and don't get it confused that there is a fine line between an indulgence or satisfying a whim and a flat out addiction or potentially dangerous obsession.

Several indulgences can be very risky and can land you in a huge load of trouble.

Some people have strong sexual tenancies and have relations with multiple partners or even “working ladies.” People may also experiment with various drugs, which can lead to a full blown addiction or overdose, if not careful.

Before you go overboard and give into your indulgences, just ask yourself one question: Is the satisfaction of giving into your whims really worth it? If not, then enjoy doing something that makes you happy!
