Sunday ( D day )

Sunday finally arrived. The day I was going to propose to Nicole. I was happy, anxious and nervous...a mixture of emotions played in my system.

My family and I went to church. The service was long but I managed to pay attention through out, although with alot of hardship.

I got home with my family for lunch and soon after my parents left home for the function, I immediately changed to a more casual look from my normal official Sunday look, put on my cologne and soon I was ready for my date.

Last night Nicole and I agreed to meet at the new Thika Road Mall (TRM). Sure it was near to my residence in Zimmerman but she wanted to meet up there as she had heard how beautiful the mall was and this would be an excellent opportunity to see it fast hand.

Nicole lived in packlands area in Westlands and that sometimes intimidated me since she lived in an elite suburb, while I on the other hand lived in a township.

'I can't wait to see you tomorrow.'

Those were her last words yesterday night when we on the phone planning on the date. I couldn't help but smile at the thought.

I got out of the house, locked and headed to the bus stop. I was lucky enough to get a bus already waiting. I board the bus and off it went towards the city.

The date was due at 3 pm but I made sure to get to TRM thirty minutes before to scan and know the best places to take my date. I really needed to impress her before I proposed.

After walking around the mall through the various shops, restaurants, fast food diners and coffee shops, I assessed all the places with how deep my pockets were and I settled on the gaming lounge as I thought some virtual games would be a great way to bond and then later we'd go to the diner where I would propose. I had the perfect plan.

Then my phone rang.

"Hey, where are you?" I asked.

"Am at the main entrance."

"Oh...Am coming to get you right now."

I quickly made my way to the exit, got to the escalator but was too slow. I couldn't wait as impatience got the better of me so I ran down the escalator while it was still moving. I couldn't keep my girl waiting.

Immediately I got to the entrance, I saw her. She wore an animal print top and black leather mini skater skirt with heals.

She took my breath away. She was beautiful, perfect in every way. She saw me, flashed her signature smile at me and came up to meet me. Upon reaching where I was she gave me a hug, I inhaled her fragrance which always calmed my nerves...The smell of lavender and jasmine.

"You look beautiful

"You look beautiful." I said to her as she let me go from the hug.

"Thank you." She said and immediately looked down and I knew if she was any lighther, her cheeks would be tomato red.

I directed her towards the mall, her hand on my elbow, making me feel like a gentleman. I have to admit, being with her was one of the best feelings I ever experienced in my teenage life.

I took her to a gaming lounge where we played some virtual games and had so much fun. I had never seen her this happy, and to think that I was the cause of her happiness or at least I thought, only drew me closer to her and I couldn't help but admire how beautiful she looked.

After we had had enough fun in the gaming lounge we strolled in the mall a little bit, talking and getting familiar with each other more before settling in the Coffee World Diner (CWD).

By now I was quite hungry due to the virtual games and strolling around the mall and I assumed it to be the same case with Nicole, so I ordered medium sized pizza since it was only going to be the two of us and milkshakes.

After the waiter brought our order and left the table I made sure she opened the pack of pizza. We enjoyed our snacks, talking and smiling while glances were being stolen. I also made sure she picked up the last piece.

Immediately she picked the last piece of pizza and looked at the bottom of the pizza box .I saw the expression that I had been eagerly waiting for. She looked up at me then back at the box at the words that were written as if what she had seen was unreal. The look of shock mixed with exitement was visible. There inside the box were the words

Yes, I had prearranged all this before she arrived

Yes, I had prearranged all this before she arrived.

I took her by the hand and looked straight into her eyes, I was nervous but I sucked it up. Even before I spoke a tear streamed down her cheek, but she was not sad.

"Will you be..." even before I could finish my words, she stormed out of the diner....

What did I do now.

I followed her calling her name but she didn't look behind even once, she was so fast for a girl and just when I was about to catch up to her she turned and her face hit my chest slightly but I caught her just in time before much damage could be done.

"Why?" She asked her voice more of a whisper.

"I like you, that's why...you make me feel stuff I have never felt before ....in a good way ..."

"I like you too much it scares me." That statement almost brought me to my knees. I wanted to kiss her, hug her, carry her and love her....yes love her.

"Don't hurt me." The statement she said sounded more like a question. How could I hurt her, I couldn't even think about it. Hurting her would be similar as to hurting myself.

I looked straight into her deep brown eyes, now watery.

" I will never hurt you."

She came up to me and hugged me so hard as the side of her face lay on my chest, I was almost gapping for air.

" I love you." I was almost shocked when I heard those three words coming from my own mouth I had uttered them unconsciously as I was too caught up in the moment. My heart had overpowered my mind and taken control of my being.

As if she has touched something hot all of a sudden, she let go of me looking at my face with a stunned look walking back in small steps as if debating within herself whether to run or not.

She searched my face for nothing I knew not of. Then without warning she turned back and ran out of the gate her hands on her face.

"Nicole!!" I called but there was no reply.

The people around looked at me with distaste but I did not care. My heart was aching.

I stood there for a full 10 minutes looking at the direction she had disappeared to...maybe she would come back.

Then someone placed their hand on my shoulder gently.

"Sorry son, she's gone."
