'We should get them a coach, ' Yuuri said as he and Viktor watched Lana and Romi skating freely over the ice in Burr's rink.
The children had just turned eight. They'd been skating since they first went to Burr's rink a few days after moving in with the Katsuki-Nikiforov's. They'd learned to skate at a rapid pace and had even learned to do single spins and the like. It was obvious they had talent.
'That's a good idea,' Viktor replied, 'but who? '
Yuuri looked at Viktor then back at the children, thinking.
'I could coach them,' Yura said as she skated up to the couple. Yuuri's eyes grew wide.
'But you would have to take CER* courses. Do you have the time to get certified and do all that work? I mean, what about YOUR skating career, Yurochka?' Yuuri replied.
Yura smiled. 'I can do it, Dad. I'm willing to retire from skating to coach them.'
Yuuri frowned, shaking his head. 'No, darling. I don't want you to sacrifice yourself for us. We can easily pay coaching fees for another coach. You have your entire career still in front of you.'
Yura pursed her lips.
She opened her mouth to speak.
'Excuse me?'
Yura closed her mouth, annoyed at the uninvited guest. A man with a friendly smile and large bluish-grey eyes greeted them.
'Are those your children?' he asked, nodding towards Romi and Lana. Yuuri nodded slowly.
'Ah, wonderful. My name is Matvei Dmitri Yakovich—' he began before Yura interrupted him as he had done to her.
'What do you want Matvei? Are you trying to get my parents to take you on as Mitya and Svetya's coach?' she deadpanned.
Matvei looked at her with a surprised expression. 'Yura? They are your parents? Wonderful! You are correct as well. I am wanting to coach your daughter and son. They have much natural talent and skate very beautifully,' the skater said.
'Look, Matvei, I plan to coach them, so you have arrived too late,' Yura glared at him.
Matvei laughed, 'Yura, I know how you love your siblings. I see it. But I want them to be my pupils. If you are to be their coach, they will feel that they will never reach your level and expectations. They will feel inferior to you. If I am their coach, this will not happen. We are not related.'
Viktor looked at Yuuri. The Japanese man seemed to agree with the coach.
'Vitya, Yurochka... I think the man is right. Yurochka seems familiar with him and I have seen him on the television. He's a good coach, I can tell. How much are the coaching fees?' he finally said.
'I will not charge. I'll do it as a... favour for my good friend Yura,' Matvei replied, winking at Yura. The Russian rolled her eyes.
Otabek skated up to them at that moment, wrapping his arms around Yura, who cracked a small smile.
Viktor looked at his children. He turned to Yuuri.
'This is good.'
The children went on to compete in several competitions. Under Matvei's guidance, they both debuted in pair skating at the Junior Figure Skating Championships when they were fifteen. They went on to win gold at World's, Skate America, and the Winter Olympics. In their twenties, they won silver at the Grand Prix in pair skating. These were some of the many medals they won in their years as a pair skate team.
Yura had a very successful career as well. She was the first trans woman to win a gold medal at the Grand Prix, World's, the Senior division, Skate Canada and America and other competitions.
Viktor and Yuuri adopted another child a few years later. A lively ten-year-old boy named Mateo, who could only speak Spanish at the time he was adopted. He learnt English and Russian soon enough.
Yuuri and Viktor's years went on and on. They watched as Yaromir, Svetlana and Yura led extremely successful skating careers and Mateo became a Linguistics major. He taught Spanish and Russian at a prestigious academy and was a translator for both languages in his spare time.
Phichit and Chris began a drug smuggling ring—just kidding. They became exotic dancers—I'm also kidding here. Chris did become an exotic dancer. Phichit became a photographer. They got married three years later.
Yura and Otabek got married shortly after Yura's twenty-fifth birthday. Two years later, they paid a surrogate to carry a child for them. They named her Aiko.
Viktor Kasuki-Nikiforov died at the healthy age of eighty-nine, after seeing his family grow and blossom. He was a loving grandfather and equally-loving husband.
Yuuri Katsuki-Nikiforov died only a month following Viktor's passing. Following Viktor's death, Yuuri had become depressed and introverted, much like he'd been before meeting his husband years before.
It was said Yuuri died of a broken heart.
