"Hide!" Frank said in a panicked tone.

I did and I heard two other sets of footsteps and a voice that sounded very familiar.

"Search the entire house." The familiar voice said.

"Understood, Lieutenant Smith." The other voice said.

I peeked out from where I was hiding and to my surprise, it was Alex Smith my girlfriend but she seemed different. When she walked by she saw me and didn't recognize me at all.

"Freeze traitor!" Alex exclaimed.

"Don't you recognize me?" I asked. "It's me, Allen."

"I have never met you in my life." She said.

My heart shattered, first, they took my parents then my girlfriend.

"Hey, Frank have you had enough time to think yet?!" I asked.

"Yes, I will." He replied.

"Alright, both of your surrender," I said.

They laughed hysterically. "You and what army?"

I took my belt off and looped it around Alex's wrists and made makeshift handcuffs, Frank did the same and we put them in the corner of the house so we can keep an eye on them.

"What do we do now?" Frank asked.

"I don't know," I said turning toward the other soldier. "What's your name?"

The other military officer glared at me in disgust.

"Oh come on, it's not like your going anywhere soon," Frank said

"Katie... Katie Parker," she said.

I slept in the rafters that night. I'm used to sleeping on hard surfaces. I was up most of the night because I had too many thoughts on my mind. I also think I heard Alex saying my full name as if she was remembering me.

When I awoke I had found that there was a knife, a good two inches away from my neck. Alex was on the rafter next to me with blood on her right sleeve and a bloody device that looked like a tracker on the floor.

Frank woke up and did his usual spiel. He asked me if I wanted coffee and saw Alex in the rafter.

"How did she get up there?!" Frank asked in a whisper.

"I don't know, but I think she is fighting whatever has caused her to forget who I am," I said pointing to the device. "Can you pass me up the first-aid kit she is still bleeding."

Frank passed the first-aid kit to me and I grabbed the gauze dressing and hydrogen peroxide. I ripped off a piece of my shirt, folded it a few times, and put it in her mouth. As I poured the peroxide on the wound Alex winced. I asked Frank for a glass of water to rinse off the peroxide. After I cleaned the wound I dressed it.

"That should do it," I said.

"W... what should do it?" Alex asked.

I just about fell off the rafter.

"Just rest for right now everything is going to be ok," I replied.

"I just remembered, we should get you a setup," Frank said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

The next morning we got Alex off the rafter and Frank asked me to follow him to the basement. I did and once there he typed in a pin code on a panel that was integrated into the wall. A hidden door opened and he told me to follow again. We then were in a fully stocked armory he told me to choose a primary, secondary, and a knife. I saw some pretty cool looking guns but most of them were long-range weapons, for example, the Baretta .50 caliber and the Dragunov. I proceeded to look at more guns and saw it, an XM8. I added an extended clip to it. For the secondary, I was going to use my dads' revolver but thought I would need a better gun. I looked at the other handguns and saw a Baretta 92 and added an extended clip to that too. For the knife, there was a lot to choose from then I saw a karambit.

"So why do I need these?" I asked.

"Just in case something like this happens again," Frank replied. "Also you're going to need it if you are going to try to get help from your fathers' friends."

"Good point," I replied.

"Who's next in that address book?" Frank asked

"Umm... Greg Anderson." I responded. "He lives in an outpost north of here."

"What kind of outpost?" Frank asked.

"I don't know the address book doesn't say," I said.
