The day after we got to the town my wounds heald completely and I am still being woken by Greg playing reveille.

"Would you stop that racket!" Sam yelled. "I'm trying to sleep!"

"Sorry," Me and Greg said.

We did the usual training and target practice and I could tell I was getting better. The next day I decided to have a conversation with Sam.

"Thank you for allowing me to have a talk with you," I said.

"No problem," Sam replied.

"Me, Frank, Alex, Katie, Greg, Walter, Zeik, and Squad Zulu make up a group called The Beginning of the End and we could always use more great soldiers and people," I said. "My question is, will you join us?"

"Yes I will join and everyone that is willing to fight will be willing to join as well," Sam said.

"Wow, that's... that's amazing but that still doesn't even the odds due to the solar laser," I said.

"That's not actually true," Sam said. "I know someone a little ways from here that has an unmonitored direct radio channel to the satellite housing the solar laser."

"That might even the odds," Frank said. "And if all else fails we can use the MRAIL that Walter commissioned for himself."

"He what?!" Sam asked.

"Don't worry he modified it to work the way it was intended," Frank said.

"Yeah, it was set up as if it was mounted on a ship but the human arm can't handle that much energy being exerted even if there was an exoskeleton being used," Walter said.

"Still if the numbers were off by even a tenth of a percent it would have killed you," Sam said. "You're crazy."

"He isn't the only one in this group that is crazy I'm the one who started this group and by doing so starting a war with the capital," I said.

I then started to get this odd feeling. It wasn't pain or the feeling of someone watching me but a sense that something was here or coming here.

"What is the matter, Allen?" Sam asked.

"Yeah, I am just getting an odd feeling as if I can sense something," I said.

"Follow me," Sam said.

We got onto the elevator at the end of the hall and sam pressed a button that had the letter B on it then opened a panel with a special key. There was a keypad and she typed a pin code. The elevator passed the basement and the door opened to an armory. there was another keypad and she input a different pin. the door opened and the lights flickered on, one row at a time and there was a command center.

"This is probably what you were sensing," Sam said.

"What am I looking at exactly?" I asked.

"This is hooked into an array of Gauss cannons," Sam said. "But sadly they have all been destroyed by the capitals solar laser."

"Damn, that would be a game changer," I said.

"Yeah, that's why I didn't mention this place," Sam said.

Just as we were heading back to the elevator the lights went out and a red pulsating light replaced it and an alarm sounded. An automated voice came over the speakers;

"Alert, alert, the facility is under attack, lockdown is now in effect, please speak with your designated manager," The automated voice said then repeated.

~Half an hour before

"I wonder where Allen is," Alex said. "Hey, Debera have you seen Allen?"

"I think I saw Allen and Sam get on the elevator and went to the basement," Debera said.

"Ok, thank you," Alex said.

"Don't mention it," Debera said.

There was the sound of gunshots coming from the west of the town and a low thud.

"What was that?" Alex asked.

"Hurry, fallow me!" Debera said.

"On your six," Alex said.

Alex and Debera entered a small building a few blocks from the central building. they entered the elevator in the back. Debera did the same thing Sam did and the doors opened into the command center.

"The armory is just passed here," Debera said.

"Debera how did you...?" Sam asked.

"The escape elevator is not hooked into the lockdown system," Debera said.

We armed ourselves and loaded the elevator with more weaponry and went to the surface. the sight was in one word horrific. Half the city was gone. I grabbed my radio.

"All units rendezvous at the east of town," I ordered.
