Chapter 16: One day of rest

The red sunrise lit up the dark rooms and hallways of the central tower. Team 7 and Hinata laid on the floor sound asleep. Naruto was sprawled out on his blankets; Sakura secluded herself to the corner of the room; Hinata and (Y/n) shared their blankets and Sasuke slept as he held the Hatake's hand. A clone squatted by the window keeping watch as they slept. Suddenly the door that led to the hallway flung open revealing two panicked genin and a dog. "HINATA WHERE ARE YOU!!?!?!" Kiba yelled as Akamaru howled. The five were startled making them jump up from the floor with (Y/n) throwing a kunai directly at the two. Kiba barely managed to move in time as the edge of the blade grazed his cheek. "DID YOU REALLY HAVE TO SCREAM SO LOUD IN THE MORNING...?!" the Hatake had flames igniting behind her scaring half of Team 8. "S-Sorry we were just looking for Hinata!" Kiba hid behind Shino as Akamaru whimpered. "Aww sorry Akamaru... I didn't mean to yell at you.... Just that guy over there..." she shot a glare at the two brown-haired genin as the puppy ran into her arms. The white puppy began to lick the girl's cheeks as she giggled. "Having fun there?" Sasuke smirked at the two. Akamaru began to shake and whimper in (Y/n)'s arms as the Uchiha got closer. "H-Hey, what's wrong?" the girl smiled and petted the puppy in efforts to comfort him. "He says there is something off about Sasuke..." Kiba and Sasuke glared at each other as the Inuzuka extended his arm to separate (Y/n) and Akamaru from him. The tension in the room grew thick as the silence pierced through everybody. "Sasuke-kun!~" a high and girly voice rang through the hallways. The two teams flinched as they knew exactly who it was. The expected blonde came running through the door as her long hair flowed behind, her team casually walked in a few seconds later. Ino tackled Sasuke as she wrapped her arms around him. "Hey, Ino-Pig! Get your hands off of him!!" Sakura spoke up. "Oh! If it isn't billboard-brow! Even with that short hair you still look as ugly as ever!" Ino laughed at her own insult. "Ha! And your tiny pea brain is soooo much better? I bet you have all that hair to hide the fact that your head is so small you probably don't even have a brain in that thick skull of yours!" Sakura retorted as she too wrapped her arms around Sasuke. Hinata looked to her side and saw (Y/n)'s eyebrow twitch in annoyance. "I didn't think you would have a thing for Sasuke" she let out a soft giggle. She furrowed her eyebrows as the other two genin continued to argue. "It's not that I have a thing for Uchiha. Those two just annoy me when they do that to him," Hinata let out another soft giggle at (Y/n)'s obliviousness. "Do you really have to be annoying so early in the morning!!" the Hatake pulled Sasuke out of their grasps and wrapped her arms around him. "Can't you stop just for one day!?" she yelled at the two. "Calm down... You get aggressive when you're angry like this..." Sasuke looked down at her as he patted her head. A light pink dusted her cheeks as she let go, "S-Sorry Sasuke," she began to walk back next to Hinata until Sasuke grabbed her hand. He leaned down to ear, "It's adorable" he whispered as her face reddened. Held back chuckles and laughs could be heard from behind them while Ino and Sakura were ready to pounce. "(Yyyyynnn-)" Ino called out as she cracked her knuckles until she was interrupted by the sound of her and Sakura's stomachs grumbling. The two hot headed girls blushed in embarrassment as a smile crept up (Y/n)'s features. "I'll make breakfast! Naruto! Follow me!!" the Hatake ran out of the room as Naruto followed close behind. A few seconds passed before (Y/n) reappeared at the doorway. "Oh, Sasuke! Have a fire ready please!" she ran back out leaving the three teams confused.

"Go!" Eight shadow clones jumped into the water. A split second later, multiple fish jumped into the air. Both Naruto and (Y/n) threw kunai at the fish, successfully killing more than ten. "Alright that's enough!" both of their shadow clones puffed away as Naruto dumped the fish into their basket. "Hehe! Breakfast is gonna be sooo good!" Naruto patted his stomach as a bit of drool escaped his mouth. "Oi! Not all of it is for us. We need to help the other teams that made it to the tower too!" she scolded the blonde. "Do we have toooo?" he began to act like a five-year-old. "Yup!" (Y/n) picked up the basket full of fish. "But there is like 50 fish in there!" Naruto pouted. "Don't worry! I got some extra fish for you!" she smiled at him. "Really?! Thanks, sis!" he hugged the smaller girl as she struggled to stand straight. "Nii-chan! The fish is gonna fall!" she giggled as her brother tightly hugged her. A faint snapping twig could be heard behind them. Without hesitation, (Y/n) threw a kunai at the direction of the sound. It flew past Sakura's head, cutting a few strands of hair as it landed in the tree next to her. "Oh, Sakura! You scared us!" Naruto scratched his head in relief. "I need answers..." Sakura spoke quietly. "About what?" (Y/n) placed her basket down. "Of what you are..." (Y/n) flinched along with Naruto. "I'm not at liberty to tell you.... Let's go Naruto." She picked up her basket and grabbed Naruto's hand. "Wait about Saku-" (Y/n) but him off by teleporting back at the tower. "W-Why did you leave her out there!?" Naruto ran towards the window. "Don't worry, I checked the surrounding forest, there was no one near us. She won't run into anybody..." she placed the basket on the floor. "What did she want to know?" Naruto turned back to the tense girl. "She wanted to know what.... we are..." she spoke quietly. "What we are...?" the blonde tilted his head in confusion. "The Nine-Tails jinchuurikis... She saw me become something terrible and now she's scared... Like the way the village was to me years ago... Like they are to you now... " Tears ran from her eyes as she hugged her brother. A small chuckled escaped the Uzumaki as he hugged back. "They just don't know how awesome we are," he gave her a small grin as she earned a sniffled laugh from the girl. "The fire's ready," Sasuke called from the doorway. "Alright! Let's go make some fish!" Naruto let go of the Hatake and ran out of the room with the fish. (Y/n) walked towards the doorway until Sasuke grabbed her hand and pulled her into a hug. "Stop thinking of yourself as a monster..." Sasuke's hug became tighter around her. "Heh... I've only accepted what I am," she spoke softly as her arms wrapped around the Uchiha. "Then you are an adorable short monster" he smirked down at the girl. He laughed as she furrowed her eyebrows and pouted. "And you're a mean giant monster...." she buried her face in his chest. "Hey (Y/n)! Naruto thinks he can cook and is about to burn all of the fish. We tried to do everything at this point but he won't stop..." Shino said down the hall. "O-Oh no..." (Y/n) let go of her hug and grabbed onto Sasuke's hand. "That knucklehead couldn't cook even if his life depended on it..."
