You're My Issue

You stood at your locker, a coffee in hand to try and chase the sleep from you. You groggily reached a hand up to put in your locker combination as a yawn escaped your lips. 7:30 was way too early to be at school, let alone awake. The only thing that ever got you through the long mornings was seeing and talking to your crush, Audrey.

Although as of late, she had been acting strange around you. She seemed distant and disinterested in your conversations with her. You wanted to chalk it up to her just dealing with personal issues, but you knew that wasn't the case. When she has shit going on she shuts everyone out, and yet she still acted perfectly normal around Emma and Noah. You were almost positive that she was avoiding you, but you hadn't the slightest clue why.

Every day it gets worse. It's gotten to the point where she won't even try to have conversations with you and she purposefully dips out all the time. Not only was it irritating you, it was also making you upset and causing all your insecurities to bubble to the surface. Was she not interested in you anymore?

You determined that today would be the last straw and if she ignored you one more time, you were going to lose it. You closed your locker and began to make your way towards Audrey's locker where she was sure to be. After a little while of maneuvering yourself through a large crowd of other students, you turned a corner to see Audrey and Noah standing at her locker. You walked over to them, Noah's back to you, and the instant Audrey made eye contact with you, her smile faltered. Typical. You let out a heavy sigh yet smiled nontheless.

"Hey Noah, Audrey." You greeted as you offered a small wave. Noah turned around, smiling instantly when he saw you.

"Y/N! Hey!" Noah spoke as Audrey stared at you blankly. It was silent for a moment as an awkward aura filled the air. Noah turned to look at Audrey and not so subtly kicked her shin, causing her to jerk her head up and form a fake smile.

"Hey...Y/N..." Audrey muttered, not looking you in the eyes. Her head dropped again and you looked at Noah with curious eyes, silently asking for an explanation. However, he simply shrugged. An awkward silence fell over you guys again and you groaned internally.

"Are you okay Audrey?" You decided to ask. She rose her head slightly, only enough so that could barely see her eyes through her black, choppy hair that made her look adorable. Her eyes however - although barely visible - held an anger in them.

"I'm fine." She spoke sharply as she shoved her hands in the pockets of her maroon hoodie. You stepped closer to her and she seemed to tense up. Her whole posture seemed stiff and angry. You gently placed a hand under her him and lifted her head up, forcing her to look you in the eyes. Instead of anger, her eyes now held shock, and fear.

"Audrey, you know you can talk to me right? I don't know what's been going on with you lately, but I'm always here." You spoke softly and it seemed to calm her nerves. That was until your eyes flickered to her lips that's were so close to yours. You couldn't help it, and as soon as that happened she smacked your hand away and stormed off. Your wyes widened in shock as you helplessly watched her retreating figure down the hallway. You slowly turned to Noah who was smiling and you furrowed your brows at him.

"What's with the smirk?" You asked, your mind still reeling from Audrey's behavior. She was never bitchy towards you, or physical - save for hugs and the like.

"Go after her." Noah said, ushering you with small hand movements. You cocked your head, wondering what it was that he knew. However you decided not to argue and quickly ran after the angry girl after handing Noah your coffee. When you reached the end of the hallway you looked right to see her enter the bathrooms. You let out a heavy sigh and walked towards the bathrooms, trying to mentally prepare yourself for what you were about to encounter. You opened the door and walked in to see Audrey standing in the center of the room, her back facing you and her hands on the back of her head. You stood there silently, not knowing what to say. Luckily, she spoke first.

"What do you want Y/N?" She spat, not even bothering to look at you. You furrowed your brows, her behavior really starting to irritate you.

"I want to know why you're acting this way." You stated, crossing your arms and sticking out your hip. She moved her hands from her head and chuckled dryly as she turned to face you.

"You're kidding right?" She asked, genuinely shocked as if you should know what the hell her problem is. You stayed silent because you didn't know what she was talking about, or what she assumed you would know. She laughed suddenly, although it was one of her sarcastic laughs which made you scowl and get a twinge of pain in your chest that stung at the same time. "Goddammit Y/N...you're so clueless..." She growled. You were starting to get pissed off because she wouldn't tell you what was wrong.

"What is that supposed to mean?" You asked and she shook her head whilst running a hand through her short hair.

"Forget it." She snapped and that's when you lost it. You let your arms fall as you stepped closer to her.

"No no no, you do not get to walk away again." You snapped and she was now the confused one.

"Again?" She asked, but you ignored her question.

"What the hell is your issue." You almost yelled and she smiled in feigned amusement.

"God Y/N..." She muttered as she looked down before snapping her eyes to yours and exploding on me. "You Y/N! You're my fucking problem! You, are why I'm acting like this!" She suddenly exclaimed. You got confused and a shocked expression crossed your face.

"What did I do?" You asked and she seemed to get ever more pissed if that was humanly possible.

"It's not just what you do it's what you don't do too." She spat as she turned away so she didn't have to look at you.

"Would you care to elaborate?" You asked, a hint of annoyance in your voice. She was definitely beating around the bush. She turned to you and began to take small steps closer as she ranted.

"Just you! You and all the stupid cute things you do that make my heart skip a beat. You and how you ignore me whenever you want but I just let it happen. You and how you have such low self-esteem, and when I call you beautiful you just completed deny it. You, and how you've fucked me up completely because you made me fall for you and I can't get back up. You are so perfect in every way, yet you don't see it and I just want you to to truly believe those things because someone like you should never have to hurt. You've fucked me up completely because I love you, and I know I'll never have you." She basically shouted. By the time she was done raging she had backed you into a wall, your bodies a mere few inches away. You held the best poker face you could as you began to process what Audrey had just confessed, and she was simply breathing heavily, no doubt trying to calm down. Neither of you guys moved, and I don't think either of you guys wanted to. You just stared into her eyes, trying to figure out what to do or say.

Your year long crush had just admitted she had feelings for you. Everything began to fall into place and make sense now, like why she was avoiding you and acting weird.  You were honestly waiting for a teacher to walk in from all the yelling, but no one came.

She still hadn't moved from you, and her position of having her hands against the wall on either side of you. You decided to do what started this fight and then finish it. You glanced at her lips, but didn't give her time to process that before slamming your lips into hers. You grabbed the collar of her hoodie and spun her around so that her back was now on the wall. You kissed her passionately for several moments before you both pulled away, smiling widely.

"I wish you would have told me sooner. I love you too you doof." You said before kissing her again.
