Lacey's birthday party was on Saturday August 22nd although her birthday wasn't until the next day.
Ashton and I arranged the whole thing. The best sandwich bar for lunch, balloons, and presents. We invited James, Stephen, Ashley, Monica, Jasmine, and Abi.
James Chandler was Ashton and I's personal body guard that replaces Lacey when I promoted her. She personally chose him from a bunch of applicants. He was older, about 27, and had experience in our military. Fresh out of high school he went into the service. My father and Mr. Covington deployed a few regiments of volunteers to help the Americans in the war in Afghanistan in 2010. James went with them and was honorably discharged in 2013 due to a broken leg. He was a sniper and he jumped from a high ground to avoid an explosive.
He was a good guy. Lacey and him came close. They were similar except he was way funnier. They were good friends.
We ate the sandwiches and opened the gifts.
Lacey is a hard person to shop for! She is so judgmental. At one point I almost asked her to just email me what she wants and I order if off Amazon. (If fact I'm pretty sure that's what Ashton did because he didn't seem to know what he got.)
Lacey opened the gift and also didn't seem too surprised, but she was happy. "Wow, thanks Ashton."
"Yeah I thought you could use one of those..." He paused and raised an eyebrow, "...things." He smiled.
I rolled my eyes.
"I did need a new hair straightener. How did you know?" Lacey asked with a sly smile.
Ashton furrowed his brow quickly. "You know...when your hair isn't up or braided, then it's straight." He shrugged.
Everyone laughed. They weren't hiding it very well.
"Open mine!" I shouted and picked up from the pile of wrapping paper.
"It's the last one, Claire." I handed it to her.
She ripped through the green paper. She opened the large flat box. Inside was a tacky t-shirt that said 'Tacky' on it.

Pink defiantly wasn't Lacey's color, but the shirt was so her.
She looked up at me wth both eyebrows raised. "I love it!" She smiled.
Lacey picked it up to get a better look and then saw the other thing in the box. She lowered an eyebrow and set down the t-shirt. She reached down for the last thing in the box. She studied it and showed it to all the expecting faces. They all seemed confused except for me. I had a cheeky smile on my face.
Lacey looked at me and smiled. "I can't believe you got me this! I can't believe you remembered that story." She was astonished.
I shrugged.
"What story?" Abi asked.
Lacey addressed the group. "When I lived in Australia, my grandpa would take me fishing all the time. He got me a necklace one year for Christmas. It had a little fish pedant on it. On day I was playing with it on the dock while he fished. I stumbled and dropped it between the woods. It fell into the canal." She looked at the necklace in her hand. "It looked exactly like this!" She grinned, then turned to me. "Thank you, Claire. Thanks everyone." She looked around at all our friends.
We then all watched Lacey's favorite movie, Die Hard. We said good night to the others and Ash, Lacey, James, and I watched her second favorite movie, which she doesn't admit to many people, Moulin Rouge. We ate dinner while watching the movie. Dinner was pizza.
Then we did a bonfire. Lacey loves a good bonfire. We sat around the fire telling stories, having fun, and roasting s'mores.
We went to bed late, but had a good day. Lacey made me promise not to make a big fuss the next day since I already did so much that day...but I couldn't help myself. We had a meal prepared for breakfast. Her favorite, bacon, eggs, and toast. Simple but good. And she also had the day off, but that was it. I kept to my promise...except for breakfast.

Thursday September 10th.
Ashton wasn't a big fan of big birthday parties. He liked to threw them, but he hated being the guest of honor. All he wanted for his birthday was, and I quote, 'My lady, a couple of friends, and some beer.' (I hope you all rolled your eyes like I did.)
I was willing to do whatever he wanted...and I didn't just mean with the party.
The party turned out to just be Ash and me because Stephen had to work the next day and James had that week off to go visit family.
"I really need more guy friends." Ash sighed as he sat down on the foot of our bed.
I walked over and sat on his lap. "Well, you have me."
He used one arm to hold my back and the other hand to hold his beer can.
He took a sip. "I don't have you...not tonight." He scowled.
"I'm sorry my menstrual cycle doesn't agree with your sexual needs." I smirked.
He shoved me off and stood up. He took another sip of beer...and by sip I mean chug. He finished off the can and placed it on his nightstand.
"Oh come on...we can still cuddle." I made a cute face.
"No, let's just watch a movie." He sighed and sat down on his side of the bed.
Ashton picked a movie on Netflix and later back on his pillow. He was near the end of the bed. I felt like he was miles away. I wanted to be next to him. I moved closer and grabbed his hand. I then shuffled a little closer.
Ashton's body recoiled. He quickly jumped off of our bed.
"Nope!" He said loudly.
"What?" I asked with concern.
"I can't, Claire."
"Oh my god. If you can't cuddle with me without getting turned on then you have a problem." I snipped.
He grumbled. "I just had an idea of how this night was going to go."
I frowned. "I know. I'm sorry." He sat back down and turned off the TV. "How about I make it up to you?" I suggested.
"When?" He asked.
"I don't know. I'll pick a random day and surprise you." I smiled.
"Okay." He said in a cute, happy tone.
"Okay." I grabbed his arm. "Now come cuddle me please."
