Ashton and I sat in silence for the rest of the day until the doctor brought release forms.
I need to talk to him!
"So...um...did you sleep last night?" I asked while he looked over the forms.
He looked up and raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, a little." He replied and then went back tot he forms.
"Ugh!" I grumbled and he looked back up. "I'm sorry, that's not what I wanted to ask...uh, are we okay?" I asked with a frowned.
Ashton sat up and lowered the forms. "What?"
"Are we okay?" I asked.
He smiled. "We're fine, Claire. I'm more concerned with you. You were shot!" He pointed at me. "And you lost the baby. Are you okay?" He asked.
I sighed. "Honestly...I'm not sure." I replied.
"Talk to me then. What are you not sure about?"
I groaned. "That's the thing, I'm not sure about anything. Im not sure about what I'm not sure about."
He smiled and grabbed my hand. "Well when you figure it out, I'll be here." He released my hand and readjusted his position so he could write on the papers.
"Ashton?" I asked.
"Yeah." He was looking at the forms.
"Did you see the same thing that I saw?"
"When?"
"The helicopter."
"You mean how it had the same symbol on it as the one that attacked you at the castle." He responded as he signed the last form. "Yeah, I saw that and I have a theory."
"I may have the same one." I said.
"Well," He put the forms on the nightstand and looked into my eyes, "I think that Hannah has been behind all this. She was behind the bomb on the yacht, she was behind my mother's car accident and probably has something planned for my dad too until he announced his cancer, and I think she was behind the car accident with her mother. She knew it wasn't going to kill her and would help make her look like a victim." He exclaimed.
"What about her father?" I asked.
"Yeah, she did that too. The doctor that 'accidentally' messed up the surgery retired to Hawaii a week ago. He was only like 40 so how could he have that money to move retire, even as a surgeon? I think that she payed him to kill her father in the table." Ashton explained.
"I was thinking the same thing too, but I thought that her father was an accident. But I also think there's more."
Ashton cocked his head. "Like what?"
"Like the attack on us in New York by a witch and the traces of magic I found at the wreak of the Udonian Treasure." Ashton still looked confused. "I think Hannah is a witch too."
Ashton raised his eyebrows. "Oh! That would make sense."
"Yeah..."
There was a knock at the door.
Ashton turned to the door. "Yes, come in!" He shouted.
Monica came in and scurried to my bedside.
"Hi, darling. I'm sorry I wasn't here."
"It's fine. Did you find Jack?" I asked.
"Yeah, but he wasn't a very nice guy. Tried to talk to him and he ignored me. We will go back after we know you're okay." Monica explained.
Jasmine walked in. "Hey, Claire." She held out her hand. "I stopped by he gift shop and got your favorite, a Snickers bar."
I smiled and accepted the chocolate. "Thank you, but there's actually a few things I need to talk to you guys about. Witchy things."
That got there attention.
"What is it?" Monica asked.
"Well, before Hannah shot me, I met the angel."
Monica raised an eyebrow. "Our guardian angel?"
I nodded. "Yeah."
"What did she say?" Ashton asked.
"Something like 'don't let what is about to happen change you as a person' or something. I don't know. She was trying to warn me."
I looked around at there surprised expressions. Monica looked the most shocked, but then guilty.
"What?" I asked looking at her.
She sighed. "I have a confession..." She frowned and came closer to me.
Jasmine put her hands on her hips.
She doesn't know what Monica is about to say.
"Uh...so I was visited by the angel too." She started. "About three months ago she came to me and said that you were in danger. She...she told me that I had to keep in check. I pushed to know about the danger. She wouldn't tell me the when, but she said that something bad was going to happen to you and that you would fall apart because Ashton was going to leave you after it." She glared at Ashton.
"What?!" He stood up. "Is that what you meant when you warned me to stand by Claire no matter what when she got pregnant?!" He crossed his arms.
Monica sighed. "Yeah...kinda."
"What?! You knew I was going to lose my baby and you didn't tell us?!" I started to tear up.
Why would my own sister do this?!
"Well...yeah. I, uh, well when you said you were pregnant I remembered what the angel said. I kinda figured this was going to happen, so I had to do whatever possible to help." Monica tried to explain.
Jasmine shouted at her with a scowl. "Monica!"
"Oh my god!" Ashton yelled. "I'm not going to leave Claire!"
"Monica! If you really wanted to help then you should have told me so I could have stopped myself from getting shot in the first place!" I gasped for air as tears ran down my face. "And my baby would still be alive." I broke down.
I felt betrayed, confused, sad, and angry. I turned to my right and continued to bawl.
Ashton came down to comfort me. He stroked my hair and stayed close enough for me to feel the warmth from his body.
"Claire...?" Monica started.
"I think you should go." Ashton said firmly.
Jasmine grasped Monica's arm and pulled her out of the room with a scowl on her face and disappointment in her eyes.
I wiped my eyes and sat up so I was sitting on the side of the bed. Ashton wiped my tears and reached a hand up my back. His touch was comforting. I was curious what would have happened that would drive us apart.
He kissed my cheek. I leaned into his body and rested my head on his chest.
"I no what I'm not sure about."
"And what is that?" He asked in a calming tone.
"I have too much to focus on to let my emotions run my life. We have to take care of Hannah first. Then...we can worry about the future and stuff." I looked up at him.
He looked a little concerned. "Okay. Whatever you say. Do you have a plan to handle Hannah?"
I sighed. "No...but first, before I do anything crazy, we need confirmation that Hannah is actually a witch. I don't know how to do that, but we will figure it out."
"Alright, after we go home." He smiled and kissed my cheek again.
That night I was wheeled out of the hospital in a wheelchair. We met with Lacey outside. She was also in a wheelchair. I smiled at her.
"Lacey!" I shouted as she approached the car in her chair.
"Claire, I'm so sorry." Lacey frowned. "It's my fault you lost your baby."
"That's ridiculous! No it's not. You took a bullet for me Lacey. A bullet!" I smiled at her. "Thank you."
"Of course." She grabbed my hand.
We both were put in a limo with Ashton. The traveled back to the castle with three security cars around us.
We made a public statement about the loss of our child that night. We however did not say anything about Hannah. That was the biggest question circulating the internet.
She got all her people under her control. She's a tyrant! Her army is loyal to her or scared of her. She shot two people and commuted many other secret crimes and yet she is still the queen of Haruhi. My people wanted justice. Hikaru's people wanted peace. And I wanted...I wanted to not have to worry about anything anymore. I wanted happiness.
