Chapter 7
It's been about a week since I first stepped foot into the crime scene of Khloe Harman's murder, and I've waited very long for this moment; the autopsy conference. It would be broadcasted live on TV, of course, since the case happened at a known college. I'm excited, to say the least. I have butterflies in my stomach and my ears are aching to hear what exactly happened to Khloe Harman.
Madison and I arrive to the police station together, our car pulls up and I can see a huge crowd of paparazzi and huge camera that would be recording the event. I look further up and see a podium, and Detective Brine is standing next to it whispering in to some policeman's ear. We both step out of the car simultaneously and walk up to the crowd. I recognize some of the people here from the station, and some people who were in my classes.
We both stand there for a minute, not being sure what to do. Before I know it though, I see Madison start pushing her way through the crowd to try and get up front, so I do the same. People are yelling at me and pushing back and I honestly feel like I'm at a pit concert or something. Once I'm up front though, I can't spot Madison anywhere. I'm looking all around, standing on my tippy-toes and everything, but she is no where to be seen. I keep looking though, but instead of finding Madison, my eyes lock with Liam.
He gives me a half smile and I give one back. I look away for a moment, though, and once I look back to Liam's spot I see that he is gone. My smile fades to a frown.
Minutes pass and there are still people yelling questions to Brine, even though the conference hasn't started yet. I sit there in silence and wait for Brine to start speaking into the microphone.
Soon, Brine steps up to the podium, but before he starts speaking someone whispers in my ear.
"Hey, El," It was Liam. My face lights up, but before I turn around I try to make it less obvious that I'm excited to see him.
"Oh hey, I was wondering where you went," I say as I block my eyes from the flashes of cameras. He moves up next to me so I don't have to turn around.
"A bit nervous, are we?" Liam asks me, and I nod. "Don't worry, we're all a little freaked, considering everyone was so close to Khloe; she sure made her way around."
Before I could answer to that, I hear Brine's voice echo through the microphone.
"Goodmorning," everyone silences, "and welcome to the autopsy of Khloe Grace Harman. As you all know, Khloe was murdered the morning of October 18th, and her body was found lying on the cement in front of London University. The medical examiners found that she had been stabbed three times in her upper left abdomen, and once in the back of her right shoulder."
Me and Liam both look at each other, our eyes wide and our breath hitched. Newscasters around us were writing things down on notepads and also speaking into their microphones.
"There were red marks on the skin of her neck and wrists, indicating that whoever murdered her was very rough and did not want her to get away. Khloe was then pushed out of the window, which was about a 28 feet drop. At this point she had lost almost all of her blood. She was dead before she hit the ground, though, making her time of death approximately 6:48am. Forensic technicians and my team are still trying to piece this homicide together, and we thank you for your patience," Brine steps down from the podium, and immediately reporters and photographers start pushing their way towards the front, yelling and shouting questions. I'm bombarded with arms and hands and microphones pushing me out of the way and I start to feel very claustrophobic before Liam grabs me and pulls me under the metal railing. He keeps hold of my arm as we make our way through policemen and other people. Once we're finally out of the crowd, though, he pulls me into him and hugs me.
"Are you alright?" He asks me, and I nod, being sort of speechless because of what I just witnessed. "Do you wanna get out of here?"
