I had never felt so numb during a family dinner. My brother had invited Aden to a make up dinner so that he got to know my family better. However, I knew my family would watch him and I with close curiosity, trying to figure out exactly how he had brought me home. At our low table, in the dining room, I tried to eat normally with Aden sitting by me. His closeness made me shiver with anticipation. He always has that effect on me but with my family in the room, I try to act normal.
I used my chopsticks to pick up the noodles in my small clay bowl and bring them to my lips. As I took a bite out of them, I sensed Aden watching me and my family watching him. I glanced over at Aden, who was dressed in my brothers clothes, and watched as his eyes met with mine.
My heart skipped a beat at his gaze. His lips smirked as he continued eating his noodles. Blushing, I glanced at each of my family members and watched their faces retreat back to their own bowls, hoping that I didn't notice their own stares.
Hoping that I could keep myself calm, I finished my dinner and sat quietly as everyone else also finished. It was like they didn't want to be left behind and be the strange last person eating. I inwardly grinned but refused to let my smile show. My father was the first to speak and break the unbearable silence.
"So Aden, how is school going?" I almost let my smile show at that question. Aden showed my father his one-thousand watt smile and kept eye contact, being direct; which was unusual because no one could keep eye contact with my father for long.
"It is going fine Mr. Scarlet. A's in all classes," he said. He was much smarter than me- I mean, he would have to be traveling all around the world- and it showed in how he talked.
"Good. Then perhaps would you be interested in tutoring Sara? She has misased some school and may need some assistance." I almost fell over from my mother's and brother's surprised faces. It was just too funny but also completely serious at the same time. How does that even work?
My cheeks attracted all of the heat in my body to my face and turned them red, my eyes whipping to Aden to see his completely unreadable face.
"I would love to Mr. Scarlet," he spoke, strength behind his words. I think everyone was just as suprised from his excepting my father's offer as I was to think my father was trying to get Aden closer to me. That sly old dog.
"F-father, what brings this about?" My brother spoke up first. I felt my own words forming but my lips were too busy grinning from all of my naughty thoughts to open and form words. Bad Sara, bad.
"Your poor sister has been falling behind in her studies." My father's voice insinuated other things but I didn't pick up on them.
"As a result, if the most educated child in the school is tutoring my daughter, I will not worry for her studies." I was barely paying any attention to my father as I was thinking of the many different things Aden could teach me.
It was only then that I thought of Oak, that he was really Aden, and that he was next to me in a human skin infront of my family. A werewolf is in my house and my family had no clue. But I knew and it was a shock to watch Aden be so conversive with humans like me or my family. It was almost human. Almost.
I could also feel his tension and the way he didn't get within a yard of anyone. Well, with the exception of a few times, and in some way contact was needed.
"Is that good for you Sara?" I heard someone say and I tuned back into the conversation.
"What?" My stupid mind let me say. Aden has definately gotten to me.
"We were just discussing that your toutoring time will be after your yellow belt class. Is that okay with you?" Because it was my father saying all of this, I could not refuse when I had been a fool and ran from my house.
"Of course father," I replied, a bit of excitement and nervousness in my fast pulse.
