Disclaimer. The way I write my chapters might be different then most because in the plot of the story, it doesn't continue on every single day of that makes sense. There will be skipped times as the story progresses and there will be stuff that is being mentioned that the characters have done that you didn't read.

Hartley's P.O.V

I woke up with a fright as I heard a loud thump in the next room over, "Mom" I said out loud with concern and I hurriedly got out of my warm single bed and ran out my room and to her room. However, I stopped as I remembered the manners of knocking. But what if this was a life and death situation? I can't knock. But I still did as I raised my hand into a fist and softly knocked against the wooden door.

"Mom?"

I asked outside the door and after a couple of minutes of knocking, I decided to just walk in so I announced this "Mom, I'm coming in" before I reached for the door knob. So I turned the doorknob finding the door unlocked and I opened the door, the sight before me had my heart plummeting to the ground as I saw my mother's frail body hunched over on the carpeted floor. I ran and skidded against her as I rested my hand against her back, I heard her sigh and I spoke up with concern leaked in my tone.

"Mom?"

A couple of minutes of silence and her heavy breathing, then I felt when she reached for my hand and held it.

"I'm fine baby" she whispered coarsely and not being able to see her in this position anymore, I stood up and moved behind her and I hooked my arms under her arms as I gently lifted her up and moved her to her bed in a seating position.

She then looked up at me and my heart plummeted to the ground the second time as my eyes were filled with sorrow when I saw her tired eyes and the ugly bags under her eyes. Despite how she looked now, she was still the prettiest woman I've ever seen. She had bright blue eyes and long blonde hair with slight graying within them.

Her face was miraculously slightly wrinkle free for a fifty year old and her face structure was of a model. Literally. I watched as she gave me a small smile and raised her hand as she caressed my cheek, then she whispered softly,

"You look so much like your father baby" Once I heard that, I immediately felt anger burn within me as I thought of that..of that man. I can't even call him my father with so much hate within me.

"I hate him"

I spat out with hatred as I stared into her eyes and she sighed before she shook her head then patted the spot next to her on the bed for me to take a seat. I too sighed but listened to her instructions and sat next to her, she turned to me slightly and grabbed my hand.

"Hartley, your father is a great man and.." I couldn't hear any more so interrupted her, not caring if I was being disrespectful or not.

"He left us mom" I raised my voice with a harsh tone to it, but then quieted down as I whispered in a sad tone, "He left us when we needed him the most." as I looked down and I heard her sigh, a couple of minutes had passed and she still hadn't said anything. I began to curse myself internally, well cursing in my definition. You're such an idiot, honestly. She's been going through so much and you brought this up. You're such a fudging fruitloop. My conscious finished and I swallowed before I turned to look at her to see her staring off in the distance.
