Anthony's P.O.V.

Lately Ian hasn't been himself. He was becoming a literal zombie, and at times I thought he could possibly be dead from a broken heart. His eyes were constantly blood-shot and he won't talk to me. It's been nearly four days, killing him a little more each day, and we haven't found any leads on Xhex. I was starting to think Ian was giving up... until today happened.

It started like any other depressing day.

"Ian, I'm gonna go to the store and pick some stuff up. Want anything?" of course I got a silent shake of the head as he sat there, starting down at his lap.

I looked at him for awhile. He looked so sad, and I felt horrible for not being able to help, but what would I even do? I turned to walk out the door, stopping at the mail box to check for mail on my way. I pulled out the usual large stack of bills, flipping through it, seeing nothing interesting and about to set it down in the passenger seat, until I saw something that caught my eye. It was an envelope without a return address, nor was it addressed to our house, as if someone just came and stuck this in the mailbox. I curiously opened it, reaching inside to find a letter of messy guy handwriting. I skimmed over the letter, looking for a name. This letter seemed to have gotten mixed up with our mail, and obviously wasn't ours. It couldn't have been. Fan mail goes to the P.O. box.

Until I saw a name. One I recognized.

My heart stopped at that minute. At least I think so. I could feel my face grow white, hands started trembling, and I felt an urge. I opened my car door just in time before I threw up all over. I couldn't believe what I'd just read.

Someone had Xhex. And they had Kalel as well.

Xhex's P.O.V.

I sat in my dungeon. Day four, if I had kept track correctly. I was giving up hope on getting out, and finding out what was happening.

It was just like any other day. Miserable. Unbearable. But it couldn't be unbearable, because I had survived until now. Either way, same as usual. Until I heard voices. Large footsteps. It sounded like large men, coming closer to my room, and finally, after what seemed like hours of anticipation at what was happening, the door opened. Revealing two men, and a bag. A body bag.

The two men were effortlessly carrying the bag, and the body didn't seem big, so I assumed a girl, who was unconscious because there wasn't any movement. They sat the bag down, unzipping it, and pulling out the girl.

For a second I thought I was seeing things, because it looked like Kalel, but I knew I was delusional after missing her so much. Due to that, I didn't have much of a reaction. The men soon left with the bag after leaving the girl on the ground. But after awhile it still looked like Kalel. My mind wasn't tricking me any longer, was it?

I quickly got up and reached for her. It was! It was Kalel! Why did they take her too?! I didn't want her to have to go through this as well. She was my best friend. Why was she here too? I was even more confused now, and I didn't understand what they wanted from me, let alone Kalel.

I rushed to the house with the letter in hand, stumbling around, trying to reach the door. I busted in, grabbing Ian's attention. He looked to me with confusion, and I held the letter up for him to see.

"What?" he grumbled, obviously in a grumpy mood, as usual.

"Read this." I peeped out. I could barely speak, or stand. I sat on the couch once I could feel my knees grow weak, about to give out.

Ian slowly read it over. His eyes soon left the paper, which fell to his lap, tears brimming in his reddened eyes. His mouth hung askew and he didn't respond for an eternity, it seemed.

Once he finally did speak, it was hushed, "What're we gonna do?"

"I don't know." I replied, equally as quiet.

His voice grew a little louder and hurriedly, "There's no return address or name or anything?" he stood and started yelling, "Why did they take both?! What do they want?!" he pulled and tugged at his hair while pacing around the room.

I stood as well, "Ian, you know I can't answer those questions." Tears came to my eyes now. "I am just as enraged and infuriated as you! Have you become unaware of how selfish it is of you to mope when I'm just as upset and Xhex needs your help?! You can't shut out the world because you're depressed and remorseful. You've gotta keep looking. There's always gonna be pain, but it's not supposed to stop you. It should push you further to prove everyone wrong. For Xhex." My voice finally died out, and I broke down, falling to my knees and tears falling after all this time of holding them in.

"Anthony, you're right." I looked up to see Ian looking guilty. "Come with me. We should go looking again."
