Rule Eight:

Act the part.

Note:

If you are a new initiate, don’t act like you’ve lived there already (unless you have because you picked your original faction). If you came from Amity or Abnegation and go to Dauntless, don’t act as if you’d been handling weapons your entire life.

As an initiate, even if it is your old faction, you shouldn’t be overconfident all the time. You still have the possibility of failing initiation and becoming factionless.

Exception:

You can choose to act reckless and overconfident, but keep in mind the consequences.

Below are exaggerated examples of what NOT to do:

The new initiate from Amity grabbed a hold of the dauntless gun and shot at the target, hitting the center each time.

*Amity were raised to be kind and peaceful, they have never used weapons. It is illogical to think they’d just be “miraculously” amazing at it.

The new initiate from Erudite punched [insert name] and easily knocked him out cold.

*Erudite exercise the mind, not the body. This is not to say they’re fat or unfit, but it’s unreasonable to think they’d knock someone out with a single blow.
