I have never thought my life would come to this and I never thought I would ever be in this position but, yet, here I am. Let's rewind, first.
I remember some parts of the night when I was jetpacking, we were back-to-back, and our legs being intertwined while Lennox's chest became my new pillow. However, Lennox and I woke up the following morning with the blankets awry but still in the same position as we were when we first went to bed. I fidgeted and squirmed a little as I woke up because I woke up to bunched-up blankets in my back. It was uncomfortable but I paid no attention to it, but, oh, I should have. Without looking, I reached behind me and grabbed what was poking me.
It was not bunched-up blankets.
My eyes widened as I fully woke up and came to my senses. I shrieked and fell off the side of the bed, yanking the remainder of the sheets off of Lennox in the process.
Lennox let out a yelp of his own and tried to cover himself up with whatever piece of fabric he could find.
"Oh my-- sweet mother of-- I just grabbed your--!" I screamed in disbelief only to be cut off by Lennox.
"Da da da da," Lennox interrupts. He shut his eyes and shook his head with a raised pointer finger wagging at me. "I'm going to go. I need to shower."
"Yeah, a cold one," I remarked from the floor.
"Can you close your eyes so I can get up please?"
"What?"
Lennox looked down at the pile of blankets in his lap and then looked back at me with expectant pleading eyes.
"Fine," I said as I closed my eyes.
I heard him get up from the bed and felt the change in wind in my face. He was waving his hand in front of me. I heard the drawers slam as he gathered clothes to retreat into the bathroom.
I still peeked.
I still peeked multiple times.
Not bad, Lennox. Not bad at all.
I pulled on the pair of sweats that were lying on the floor from the night before so I wouldn't be Donald Ducking it around the apartment until Lennox got out of the bathroom. I grabbed some fruit out of the fridge and the granola out of the counter so I could make a couple of breakfast smoothies.
He came into the room with his head down and was trying to avoid me. He wasn't talking but instead was silently grabbing the cereal from on top of the fridge and the milk and his insulin from inside of it. I was finishing the smoothies when Lennox returned from the bathroom. I stuck a straw in his and slid the tall glass over to him.
He mumbled his thanks and took a long sip as I watched him. I could tell Lennox felt my eyes on him as he gulped the smoothie. He couldn't bring himself to ask me to hand him a bowl for his cereal yet alone make eye contact with me. I watched his cheeks get bigger and bigger as he tried to take in as much as he could. It was hilarious!
Finding my moment of opportunity, I cheerily asked bringing my voice up an octave, "So who were you dreaming about last night?"
Victory.
Sweet, glorious victory.
Lennox spat out all of the smoothie in his mouth all over the counter in front of him. Meanwhile, I was laughing so hard that my sides were aching. He was hunched over the counter in shock as the smoothie dropped from his mouth. I tossed a dishrag in his direction and sauntered off towards the bathroom still laughing.
We would never be able to tell anyone that this had happened but we could get a laugh out of it. I could, at least.
I took a quick shower and left for class. I managed to pull off a decent look with black jeans, a chambray button down and tan booties with a plaid blanket scarf to complete the look. Mainly the scarf was to keep me warm on the walk over to class.
