Lithium has been very distant for the last two weeks. She doesn't come by very often and when she does, she doesn't talk much. She went from sarcastic to Johnny quiet and that's really scary.
It's 5:00 and we're waiting for Lithi to come by. She walks in shortly after, whispers hello and sits down in front of the TV. She looks a lot thinner.
"Hey Lith!" Two exclaims in his usual cheerful way. "Want some cake?"
Lithi shook her head.
"Really? You've never turned down chocolate cake before." Two-bit said worriedly.
"I'm fine." Lithi said smiling slightly.
I could see right through her fake smile.
"Well ok." Two gave in. "But if you want some, I'm willing to share."
I sat down next to Lithi.
"Are you ok?" I whispered.
"I'm fine." she responded.
"Dallas, back up." Steve scolded, walking in to the kitchen.
"Ugh, fine." I rolled my eyes.
I was only trying to help.
Lithi looked up at the clock.
"I've got to go." She whispered hurriedly.
"Why?" Steve asked.
"I've got things to do at home." Lithi responded.
Steve looked hesitant to let her go, but said, "Fine. You'll be back right?"
"Definitely." She assured him.
Lithi ran out of the Curtis house to her truck.
"You need to stay away from my sister!" Steve yelled.
"Seriously, Steve, I was only asking her if she was ok! She looks worn down." I shout back.
"So what if she's a little worn down, she works at the Dingo full time!"
"But she looked thin, like she hasn't been eating. Her clothes hang off of her figure!"
Steve looked confused, then sad.
"Really? Did she really look that way."
I nodded. He sat down.
"How did I miss that?" Steve paused for a moment. "I'm gonna have to talk to her."
"That might be smart." I scowled.
"Yeah. Maybe."
