I watched as Nicki struggled to get her words together with tears running down her face.
Watching the tears run down her face made my heart break into a million pieces. She doesn't even know anything yet, and i'm already making her cry.
"Meek?" I heard her raspy voice say, finally. She spoke!
"Yes?" I answered softly but with a bit of excitement as I sniffled.
She looked to be so deep in thought, she looked like she had many questions and is in need of an explanation. Something I was trying to Avoid.
"What's the reason for me being here, and were is Abby? I haven't seen her yet."
-
I stared at her with a blank expression, as the words left her lips and pain filled questions were shot at me. My blood ran cold and my body stiffened under her waiting gaze. My brain went into a frenzy as the wheels in my head turned trying to quickly come up with the best explanation.
"Meek?" She called to me once I failed to answer her question. I felt sick to my stomach and the room suddenly became hot as the beads of sweat started to form on my forehead.
"Did you hear me? Meek?" She asked again, raising her voice just a bit.
"h-huh?" I stuttered as my heart pounded against my chest like drums.
"I said, What's the reason for me being here, and where is Abigail?" She repeated more firmly.
Mustering up a bit of courage, I moved up on the bed closing the gap between us. I reached for her hands interlocking them with mine, fumbling with her fingers I released the breath of air I was holding. Lifting my head and taking my gaze from her hands, I stared into her big dark brown eyes. I watched as confusion flash behind them as she looked up at me expectantly.
"Nic, I have something to tell you, but I want you to listen carefully as I speak. Ok?" I told her as my breath shortened and tears quickly glossed my eyes, as memories flashed through my mind.
"...Ok?" She said waiting for me to continue my explanation.
"Nic, the reason why your in the hospital is because you were apart of a terrible car crash..." I started.
"... You suffered from many injuries to your body including a broken arm. The impact of the crash caused you to bear a blow to your head, which caused you to slip into a coma. Tomorrow would've made a month since."
Her face dropped and horror quickly took over her features. I watched as tears filled her eyes and she started to slowly shake her head 'No' doing her best to prevent her tears from falling.
"Where's Abby? Where is my child Meek?" She asked in such a muddled manner and my heart ached.
"Nicki..." I croaked out. The tears I was holding in finally escaped and made their way down my cheeks, as visions of Abby's small casket getting lowered into the earth flash through my mind.
