I take a seat at an empty table in the cafeteria. Kendall, who just came into the lunch room, does the same thing.
"I swear, Davian is an idiot. Ignore him, Maya. He doesn't know what he's saying. Gosh, I wish I was here yesterday. I would've slapped him in the face." Kendall slams her notebooks onto the lunch table and looks across the cafeteria to see if she can find Davian. "Maybe I should go up to him and-"
"No, it's fine," I say. I open my small bag and take out a sandwich and a gatorade bottle. "I don't want to start shit. It's only the second month of the school year." I open my Spanish notebook to review my Spanish notes. I was completely stressing out about my Spanish test for fourth period so Davian and Jacob were the least of my worries.
"But-"
"Hey, Maya!" I heard someone calling my name from the large ocean of students in the lunch room. Cassie, the girl who tried casually flirting with Jordan yesterday walks towards the table I was sitting at. Cassie perches herself at the edge of my table and gives me a lovely smile.
"Um, hey?" I say weirdly. I rarely ever talked to Cassie, even if we did have the same Spanish class. Also, she liked spending her time talking to the guys in our class and texting people on her phone.
"Your guy friend seemed nice yesterday," she says to me, still smiling from ear to ear. "I was wondering if you knew his number?"
I glance at Kendall and she does the same. I knew exactly what Cassie was trying to do. She was going to use her charm to get closer to Jordan so she can ride in his car and go on a few dates with him. Typical Cassie. "I can ask for his number if you want me to," I say nicely. I didn't want to be rude to Cassie. She never really did anything mean to me, so why should I be mean? "I'll let you know tomorrow."
Cassie nods her head then walks away. Kendall frowns at Cassie's back as she leaves our table. "What was that about?"
I groan and rub my head tirelessly. "Cassie tried to flirt with Jordan yesterday."
"Really?"
"Really. She told him he had a nice car and gave him one of her weird smiles. Oh, and she also giggled at him, and Jordan didn't even say anything funny."
Kendall rests her head on her stack of notebooks on the lunch table. "Well that's lame. Hopefully Jordan doesn't actually want to date her."
"You never know. If you haven't noticed, literally every girl thinks Jordan is hot. It's kind of annoying actually. Sometimes I would watch girls drool over him from a distance. I just wish they knew what an idiotic jerk he was."
"Yeah," Kendall agrees, "Jordan's hot, but that doesn't mean I'd like him, though. He's kind of scary." Kendall pretends to shiver in her chair. "He gives me the spooks."
We both laugh. Then after a few seconds, the bell rings. "Ugh, lunch is over," I say sadly.
"Ugh. See ya after school," Kendall tells me. She gives me a small wave and picks up her things. "Wish me luck on the Spanish test." She walks away.
I put my half-finished sandwich and my gatorade in my bag. I walk out of the cafeteria with the rest of the students.

After school ended, I walk out of the school with Kendall by my side.
"Oh no." Kendall stops walking. She was looking down at her phone and frowning down at her screen. "I have to go. I have fifteen missed calls from my mom and she just texted me saying that I have to pick her up from the grocery store." Kendall sighs and hugs me before sprinting to her car. She didn't even wait for me to say goodbye to her.
