The next three and a half weeks seem to go by in a blur. Kendall hasn't spoken to me, and whenever my eyes meet hers, she looks away quickly and walks away to avoid contact with me. Sean is still by my side and tries his best to be understanding, just like he always does, which I've always appreciated about him.
I drag my carry-on down the aisle, taking in a deep breath before taking a seat near the airplane's window, and I look out the window, slowly getting lost in my thoughts.
"I hate planes," Jordan comments beside me, and I turn to see Jordan with an airplane pillow around his neck. A hat is rested on the top of his black hair, and he brings it down over his eyes to cover them from the airplane's bright lights. "Might as well try to sleep," he adds.
I scoff at him, "Yeah, good luck with that."
The plane speeds up and takes off, ascending into the sky. I look over at Jordan, and his hands are gripping onto each arm rest on both sides of his seat. I raise my eyebrow at him, but he could see me, since his hat was covering his whole face.
Wanting to entertain myself, I put my headphones on and begin playing a movie on my laptop. Occasionally, I would look out the window to the sky slowly darkening, signalling that it's getting late. Hallway through my movie, Jordan moves around in his sleep, shifting from side to side in his chair.
"Do you have sleeping pills?" Jordan asks me without pulling his hat off his face.
"Um, I can check my bag," I answer, and I pull my bag from under the airplane seat in from of me and start searching through my bag. I pull out a pill bottle and hand it to him, until I remember that Jordan couldn't see me handing the sleeping pills to him. "Hey, here's some--"
Before I could finish my sentence, the plane starts shaking, jostling me around in my seat. "Please fasten your seatbelts," a flight attendant says on the intercom. The plane shakes even more, dropping low and flying back up again. "There's strong winds," the flight attendant explains.
Slightly panicked, I put my seatbelt on and try to hold on to the arm rest on my right, but without thought, I held onto Jordan's hand instead, enclosing my hand over his and holding tightly. Jordan, without pulling his hat off, holds my hand too, and we sit there in silence as the airplane rattles.
