Into the Dark : Shadows

Chapter 2

The large door of the large dinning hall opened slowly as Elena and Betty with four kids walked in. Everyone's attention was on the new girl. Betty's hair was packed into a pony tail and now she looked cleaner and more beautiful than when she arrived at the academy.
Everyone watched her and Elena walk over to where their dinner was served. Placed on their trays was something red and frozen.
' probably the bloodsicle ' Betty thought.
A golden cup was filled with something that looked like red wine and placed on her tray. There were six long tables about the length of the hall. They walked to the nearest table and took their sit. Betty looked around and saw everyone was still starring at her.
' why are they all looking at me? ' she whispered to Elena.
' because you're different '
' huh? '
' your skin color differs from everyone '
' I noticed that... ' she said then paused. Then she picked her cup and took a sip.
Immediately, she spat it out and grimaced at the taste as everyone turned to her direction.
' I knew it! ' said Paul who sat two tables away.
' knew what Paul? ' Elena asked
' I knew she wasn't one of us ' Paul said and stood up. Elena looked at Betty whose head was bowed.
' Betty, you're not a vampire? ' she asked
' yes I'm not ' Betty replied as everyone in the hall gasped in shock.
' you know you can't be here right? '
' I'll take my leave ' she said and stood up to leave.
As she turned, she was startled to see Paul standing in front of her.
How could he have covered that distance so fast?.
' no, you ain't leaving ' He said and brought out his canines as the flesh around his eyes became contoured.
Seeing this, Betty fell to the ground as Elena stood in front of her in defense.
' you won't hurt her ' Elena said
' come on Elena don't tell me you're protecting a human '
' yes I am because we were ones human '
Betty looked around and saw that other students were on their feet and their canines were out.
' Elena come on, let's have her!  ' Caroline said In an authoritative voice as everyone yelled in support.
' you know it's been long since we tasted blood from a direct source ' Paul said in a persuasive voice.
' you want her, you've got to go through me ' Elena replied strongly.
' really? ' Paul asked.
' do I sound like I'm joking? '
Suddenly, all the students began to bang the table for a beat rhythm as they yelled " fight!. Fight! " in unison. Paul looked around grinning at their performance then turned to Elena.
About to charge, someone yelled " halt! ". Everyone turned to the direction of the voice. It was Silas Griffin with three other students, all standing at the entrance. Silas Griffin, the best and probably the strongest strigoi student. He was muscularly built and tall.  His hair was Raven black and his eyes were brown. He was also a member of the school board.
' Silas, you're back ' Elena said and ran to meet him as they kissed.
' what's going on here? ' asked a female in the group of the four...Bella Labonair. Bella was Raven haired and she had a well defined feminine structure.
' it's Paul ' Elena replied.
' Paul what's going on? ' she asked.
' why don't you ask her? ' he said pointing at Elena.
Then a blonde girl in the group stepped up to Paul and held his pointing finger as she forcefully threw it down. She looked like Elena a lot. The only difference was that she was older, taller and more defined than Elena.
' don't you dare point a finger at my sister ' she warned.
' Jade, calm down ' a Raven haired boy said. He looked like Bella but was taller. He was her twin brother...Brian Labonair.
' Elena what happened? ' Silas asked
Elena walked to Betty and pulled her up. Then she dragged her to Silas.
' who's she? ' he asked
' her name's Betty and she's human...' Elena replied. On hearing human, Brian, Bella and Jade turned to look at her.
' and? ' Silas asked telling her to continue.
' and when Paul found out he tried to kill her '
' I wasn't going to kill her, just suck her blood ' Paul shot back.
' she's human, not our fault. That's her fate ' Silas replied.
' what you can't let that happen? ' Elena questioned.
Just then,  Howard stepped in. ' what's going on here? ' he asked.
' nothing sir ' Bella quickly lied.
' Every student should assemble at the court, we've got a case at hand ' he said and left
' Alright everyone, you heard him to the court ' Bella announced as all the students began to troop out. Elena looked at Silas in disappointment and left pulling Betty along.
The court room was large, far larger than the dinning hall. The court was designed in the shape of an octagon. The judge's seat was placed on one side of the octagon, the jury sit was next to it and the other seats were arranged to face the Judge's.
At the center was a small podium. That was where the accused stood and next to the judge's on the left was the witness seat.
Slowly, the students trooped in in groups of two, three, four and soon the court was filled.
Then the members of the jury stepped in, Silas, Bella and Brian with the professor, Mr James and fifteen others. Then a grumpy old man walked in. He was the shortest man you could ever look upon. He wore a black suit and in his hand carried a big black book. He climbed his and you could barely see his head behind the table.
Just then, a female student walked up to him with a heap of books in her hands. She lifted him from the seat and placed the books on the seat as he sat on the the heap.
He opened the pages of the book and mumbled some words to himself.
Then he said ' the accused Miss Elizabeth Hackerman should please step forward '
On hearing this, everyone's attention turned on the human girl.
