Chapter 11

The night was cold and the breeze blew strong as a squad of fifteen strigois been led by Brian marched to battle. Today a young fighter had been placed on the squad. That was one of the things Silas was mad at. He had been replaced with a level B fighter. The march seemed long as they walked and walked for what seemed to be an hour.

At last, they got to the battle ground. Each student were fully armed with stakes , wood pikes, crossbow, spiked baseball bats, a bow and quiver of wood spike arrows.
" You, you and you, take the tree tops scout for the Morois. You, you, you, and you set the traps. the rest take cover and wait for my signal." Brian ordered as the strigois kicked into action.

Just as he thought they were set the level B sub asked " what about me what am I to do?."
The replacement of Silas was Oscar. Brian surprised he made the squad wanted to ask questions but held it back. In order not to waste further time, Brian simply said " join the scouts on the tree...give me a signal when you see something". Immediately, Oscar leaped to a tree and put his pair of binoculars into use.

After hours of waiting, Oscar spotted the Morois also approaching with a squad numbered fifteen.
"The Morois are approaching" he said as Brian could hear him though it was a whisper.
Soon, the Morois led by Cyrus Black as they came to a stop seven feet away.

Now only Brian was seen standing facing Cyrus and his comrades.
"you come to fight just one man with fifteen of yours." Brian said his fingers rolled into a fist. But Cyrus was smarter than that he knew Brian hid his men from sight to set ambush for them. But Brian didn't know a trick couldn't be played twice on Cyrus.
" I wasn't expecting you Brian ." He laughed and suddenly he face became serious. "give me Silas Griffin." he ordered
"Sorry not today." Brian said as he signalled his comrades to come out of hiding.
" Well you can pose a threat...I like that." Cyrus said "charge!" he ordered as the Morois ran forward.
Brian also gave orders as ten strigois plus him clashed with the attacking Morois. The other five broke in to two groups as one led some Morois to the traps and the other three shot wooden spiked arrows from their crossbows..

The battle between the Morois and strigois tensed up as Brian noticed that the Morois had reinforcements who just joined the party. After staking a moroi to the heart, he turned around to face his next opponent as he welcomed by the swooshing of a sword that missed his eyes by few inches. Surprise he hadn't been hit in the eye and gone blind, he lifted his head to view the attacker. It was Cyrus. Brian gritted his teeth in anger as he charged at Cyrus, their weapon making a slight thud as it clashed.

Meanwhile, Oscar stood his ground after taking down five Morois, getting ready for another batch to attack. His prayers were granted as two Morois sighted him after they had both help each other to take down a strigoi. Oscar felt remorse for his dead comrade as his killers charged at him. Gripping tight on his spiked baseball bat, Oscar swung ferociously at his attackers as one ducked to avoid the bat, hitting the other behind him right in the skull. His opponent carried two silver daggers as he tried slashing at Oscar's throat. Taking little steps backwards, Oscar avoided his throat being slashed.
Suddenly, he bumped into someone as that prevented him from moving backward. His attacker thought he had a chance and raised his daggers to stab. Oscar quickly used the baseball bat as a shield as the knife got stuck in the bat. Seeing that his opponent struggled to remove the blades, Oscar sent his right feet into the stomach of his opponent sending him falling to the ground. Oscar forcefully pulled out the daggers and threw them a save distance from his opponent's hand reach. As his opponent tried to stand up, Oscar swung his bat at his face, the spikes piercing through the skull. Starring at the body of his opponent, Oscar turned to see who he had bumped into. Instead his eyes caught the face of the most beautiful girl he had ever set his eyes on. She wasn't strigoi cause he recognised the faces that left the academy with him and hers wasn't one of them. She was a Moroi.
" Shoot" he cussed why did she have to be a Moroi.
As he stared at oblivious he was on a battle, her eyes also caught a glimpse of him. She wielded a silver crossbow and had a silver spiked brass knuckle. She began walk towards him, as he picture her walk in slow motion. But to his surprise, she raised her crossbow at him and shot as the arrow flew straight for him.

Oscar couldn't tell why he couldn't moved but he was lucky as he arrow whistled past him and sank into the chest of someone who tried to sneak up on him. Oscar turned and saw the snitch holding his chest as he grimaced at the pain. Without thinking twice, Oscar swung his bat at his skull, killing him instantly. The n his gaze went back to the beauty who had just saved his life-now she stood few meters away from him.
"hi." they both said almost unconscious of their actions.
" what is a beautiful creature like yourself doing in a place like this?" Oscar asked nto realising those words escaped his lips.
she blushed " And what is a fine young man doing in a place like this?" she asked almost not knowing why she bothered or cared so much.
" I'm Oscar...Oscar Moon." he introduced himself as he turned and slammed his bat right on the head of an attacker who came screaming.
" I'm Abigail...just Abigail." she said fearing if she told him she was a Labonair he might lose interest.
" Nice to..." Oscar tried to say as he was interrupted by Brian who ordered a retreat. " go to go...bye." he said an ran with the remaining comrades numbering four including Brian.
Abigail couldn't stop the blush, her cheeks had already become red and her lips bent into a smile.

Suddenly, someone called from her dreamland. It was Cyrus," Abigail let's go we've won" he said about to leave when he noticed her red cheeks "...and stop blushing" he said and walked away as Abigail followed behind him Praying he didn't notice the reason.
