Near was getting close.
Kira was gone; permanently out of the picture. And though he was, in a sense, alone, life really was much better than it had been with that psychopath around.
Now the world was getting back to "normal," and he was dealing with your regular, everyday murderer, not one who used a notebook of death given to then by a supernatural being. Nope, just a stereotypical murderer.
Which was much better and easier to catch, albeit not quite as fun.
He had even pinpointed the general location of the murderer, and knew what street they lived on in sunny, southern California.
This case was going to be open-and-shut; the easiest one Near had yet to solve.
Yet he was leaving out one major element; one major puzzle that was going to be hard for him to solve in the future.
And at the moment, that puzzle was walking home, completely unaware of the fact that her home was to soon be raided by the police.
