It didn't take any convincing at all. After telling Kelly about my promotion I claimed I wanted to go out to celebrate. Kelly was up for it without even asking her to come with. We had already arrived at Chino's. Ten minutes early to make sure we was seated to have it not look obvious. Seeing the lady waiting to take my name pull out her list I had to think fast. Kelly would catch on if she knew I deliberately booked a table for four. Turning to her I smoothly lied "You've got eyeliner down your cheek" I told her. Kelly looked at me embarrassed as she rubbed her cheek to try and remove the non existent eyeliner mark. "Is it gone?" She asked me, staring at her hand with a frown. "Nope. Go to the bathroom and sort it. I'll get our table". I watched as she rushed off to the bathroom. Turning to the lady I knew I had sent Kelly away just on time. "Table for four. Rachel" I told her. "Of course. Right this way please" I smiled gratefully as she led me to the table of four. I felt awkward seeing the place wasn't busy at all. There was a lot of tables for two free. I hoped Kelly wouldn't question why we was seated here instead. Once I was seated I waited patiently for Kelly. She waltzed over to the table smiling at me then sat down opposite me. "I think I must have rubbed it off on my way to the bathroom. I couldn't see anything" I smirked falsely to hide my lie some more and pretended to check her cheek. "It's gone" I agreed. We started off with some drinks. I tried to drag out the time for when Roman and Dean would arrive but for some odd reason they was late. It was now 7.30 and there was no sign of either of them. "Are you ready to order food now?" I looked at the waitress who had been asking me every few minutes up to now the same question. "Rachel! Kelly!" My eyes left the waitress to looked behind Kelly. She was already turning back to look at me with panic on her face. She burned a crimson red to see Roman was here. "Can we sit with you guys?" I hadn't looked at Dean yet. I knew he wasn't interested. I wasn't going to act desperate or upset by the stunt he had pulled at the club. "Of course you can" I replied, feeling smug to see Kelly become shyer than shy.
Roman sat down next to her, leaving the only seat left which was next to me for Dean. I was actually relieved Dean came across casual and didn't show any sign he felt awkward around me. I had met men like him before. Once you was out the door the night would be forgotten about. Of course it was Lisa that had been the subject to be forgotten about. She was just as bad sometimes. Ok, most of the time. "Hi" Kelly smirked shyly to Roman. He did the same back. It was adorable to watch them both act this way. Maybe Roman was more like Kelly than I originally thought. Shy and awkward. "So...are you ready to order now?" The waitress asked me with an annoyed tone. I looked up at her with an apologetic smile and nodded. Looking over the menu I decided quickly. "Chicken tikka please" I told her. Kelly and Roman ordered the same and Dean ordered a burger. I couldn't see him ordering anything else if I was being honest. He looked like a burger or pizza and beer kind of guy. The wait for our food felt nothing but awkward. I sat silently next to Dean as Kelly and Roman laughed and giggled silently between each other. They were flirting between themselves leaving myself and Dean as the third wheels. He didn't seem to care. He tapped away on his phone doing lord knows what not really saying anything either. I was relieved when the food came. Conversation seemed to suddenly involve myself and Dean more from that point. "I heard you wasn't coming this weekend Rachel" I looked up to Roman to see he had the same disappointment on his face as Kelly. She had tried to convince me to change my mind on our way over here. "I had prearranged plans. I can't cancel them" I explained but it was a lie. I just didn't like the work weekends all that much back at home. In fact, I hated them. I loved my old work colleagues. It was the team building exercises I hated to be a part of. "That's a shame. Maybe next time". I nodded not saying anything else on the subject.
"I will pick you up the morning we leave. There's no point you getting on the coach when you will be staying with me when we get there" I tried my best to not look up as they both started to prearrange their plans for the weekend. As sweet as it was I couldn't help but worry for Kelly. Nobody was going to like the fact she was staying with the man everyone but me in the office wanted. "Rachel, rather than going to the office tomorrow, do you think you could prep any files for the next meeting at my place? I have a spare office you can work in" I blinked up at him taken back. Why would I need to be at his place to do that? The work office would suffice or even my own home. I had a little office space there in the living room. I just hadn't set it up yet. Roman waited as he watched me for my answer. Nobody was speaking making it more awkward they were listening. "Sure. That wouldn't be a problem" I told him. But it was a problem. It was a big problem because I felt more than awkward if anyone found out I had been in his home. It would set off suspicions making me a target. Kelly wouldn't be targeted till after the weekend. "Great! Dean will let you in. Once you have done just make sure you leave the files and any notes on the kitchen counter for me to double check. Is that ok with you?" I nodded to agree although deep inside I wanted to refuse. The whole time Roman was talking about this Dean didn't react in a negative way towards the idea. I got the feeling he just didn't care. That then brought my thoughts back to our one night stand. If he brought it up would he find out I couldn't remember? Would it annoy him? Insult him? Just sitting next to Dean was difficult enough. He was the man I wouldn't mind getting to know and spending time with but he wasn't into me at all. I knew that all too well. I had to get a grip and accept we are both adults. It was obviously a mistake. A silly drunken mistake. The more I told myself that the more gutted I was. I wasn't trying to be vain wanting to see more of Dean just because of his looks. I was sure he was a nicer person than Roman had made out. There could have been any reason why he used that trick to sleep with women.
