Chapter 5

The girls arrived at the drees shop and rushed inside. They all found dresses they liked a tried them on.

Peggy got a yellow dress that had short sleeves and sequins on the top part of the dress. The bottom part was a cupcake skirt.

Angelica had an elegant pink dress. It had spaghetti straps and a long flowy skirt.

Eliza got a 3/4 sleeved, side blue dress. The top was a blue fabric with blue flower lace over it and the flowy skirt went to her knees.

"Hey Peggy could you help me with the back on my dress" Maria said from her dressing room.

"Sure" Peggy walked in and closed the door. "Wow. You look so pretty." She moved Maria's hair to the right so she could button the top of the back of the dress. She saw a bruise on Maria's back. She pulled the dress down in the back to see another bruise. "Maria. Where are these bruises from?"

"N-nothing. I feel and I-I got some bruises." Maria answered with a shaky voice.

"Maria, those aren't from falling. What happened? You can tell me anything. I won't tell anyone."

"Uh....ok. I...um...before I came to this school I had a boyfriend and he was very abusive. He did that to me. I have a few more bruises. That's why I moved. Please don't tell anyone Peggy. I'm trusting you with this."

"I-I won't. Why didn't you tell anyone about this?"

"Where I was from I was know as the biggest slut and everyone knew it. I'm not though. I slept with one person and then I had this reputation. Anyways I didn't tell anyone cuz no one would believe me. I should have told someone but I didn't."

"I'm so sorry that happened to you."

"It's fine. It's not your fault. That's why I came here. To start new. You can't tell anyone this, ok Peggy?"

"I won't." Peggy finally buttoned the dress. "There." She walked so she can look at Maria from the front. "You look amazing."

"Thanks" Maria smiled.

                           ~Meanwhile~

"Eliza I really want to go to homecoming with Laf but Peggy is his girlfriend. I just have a feeling that she doesn't like him anymore," Angelica said to Eliza, they were far enough away from the dressing rooms for Peggy and Maria to hear.

"Angelica, you know our sister. She wouldn't lie. She loves Laf but it does kinda seem like she doesn't like him anymore," Eliza confessed.

"She won't admit it if I asked her if she didn't like him though."

Right after Angelica said that Peggy and Maria walked out of the dressing rooms.

"We are all ready to check out." Peggy said as they walked over to Angelica and Eliza who were standing by the cashier.

"Finally," Angelica said while taking their dresses from them and swiping her card.

"Angelica I can pay for my own dress," Maria said looking through her purse for money to give to Angelica.

"Let's just say this is our welcome present for you. Ok?" Angelica said back.

"Ok. I guess. I will pay for part of it."

"I got it Maria." Angelica finished paying and they started walking to Angelica's car. They got in and dropped Maria off and her house then went to the Schuyler Mansion.

"Why were you and Maria in the dressing room for so long Peggy?" Eliza turned around from the passengers seat to face Peggy.

"I couldn't get the button to button. There were like 5 different weird buttons," Peggy lied.

"Oh. Ok," Eliza turned back around.

They got to the house and the girls all went to their own rooms and got ready for bed. They hadn't realized how long they were dress shopping. It was already 8:46 and they had to get up at 5:30 for school cuz they had something early that morning at school.

Peggy put on a pair of black shorts and a yellow tee shirt. Her phone buzzed. She looked at her phone to see a text from Laf. [i can't wait for homecoming on Friday. Only two more days!]

Peggy texted back [ya. I'm so excited too. Can't wait]

Peggy put her phone down and tuned out her bedside lamp and went to sleep.
