The satisfying sound of a knock on the door shook me from my worries. Excited, I raced to the hallway and knocked over Melody so I could answer the door before her.
"Gideon!" I shouted, opening the door to reveal the exhausted boy.
"Mabel, you seem-" I caught him by surprise by running at him and knocking him into the snow. He spit out snow. "Is this a hug? If you would get off of my arms I could return-" I slapped him.
"How dare you?"
"What on Earth do you mean?"
"I was so worried about you!" Gideon was quiet for a minute. "You didn't show up, not for a mission, not to relay some cryptic message, not even just to talk." I sat up. "I thought something bad had happened." Gideon sat up.
"I'm shocked." He smirked. "I didn't think you cared so much about me."
"Ugh." I groaned. I tried to push him away, then remembered that I was still sitting on his legs. "Oh, right." I stood up and helped him up. "Where were you yesterday?" He thought for a moment.
"I was with my father."
"You hesitated."
"What?"
"You hesitated. What were you going to say?" Gideon sighed.
"I was going to lie to you at first. Then I decided against it." I frowned. Why did Gideon feel like he had to lie to me?
"You don't need to lie." I reassured. Gideon shook his head.
"Maybe I should have." He muttered.
"Well... why are you here now? Do we have a job?"
"I'm afraid it's nothing that urgent. I actually came to prevent... well, this." I blushed.
"Sorry for pushing you into the snow."
"No hurt feelings." We stood there for a minute. "Could we possibly move inside?"
"Oh, yeah." For the first time since we'd met, Gideon and I just relaxed. We watched movies until Melody made dinner, which he surprisingly stayed for.
"Thank you for the lovely meal, Melody, but I must be getting home before my father gets worried." Ford grunted at the comment about his father, but Melody shot him a glare.
"Any time hun. Do you want any leftovers?" Gideon shook his head.
"I'm sure they could go to much better use here." Melody nodded and muttered something to herself about the pig that always seemed to be running around outside the shack, and I walked with Gideon to the front door.
"Thanks for staying."
"No, thank you for having me." He thought for a moment. "Do you eat dinner like that every night?"
"No, sometimes we eat in front of the tv, but Melody doesn't like that. She says that food is best enjoyed at a table surrounded by loved ones." Gideon shook his head.
"No. I meant do you eat together every night?"
"Oh." I thought for a minute. I'd always eaten at the table with my family. Even back home in Piedmont, when we couldn't bring books to the table, or leave until everyone was finished, and we couldn't talk with food in our mouth which left us silent for most of dinner, we'd always eaten together. It just hadn't occurred to me that not all families were like that. "Yeah, we do." Gideon smiled.
"That's nice. It really feels like a family." He hugged me. "Thank you for making me feel like I was part of a family too." I hugged him back.
"Anytime, Gids." We stood there for a second, until he suddenly jumped back.
"My father will be upset if I'm too late." I nodded. "Good night!" As I closed the door behind him, I thought again about what he said. It would be horrible to not have a dinner as a family. I was just glad I had mine.

"Pacifica?" Bud Pleasure tentatively knocked on the door to his daughter's dressing room. Only, she didn't seem like his daughter. In any sense it seemed more like she was the parent. Ever since she had acquired her amulet, she had controlled them with fear. Bud was risking a lot by knocking on the door that evening, as she was stressed by the possibility that the Pines girl had an amulet. Nevertheless, she opened the door.
When Bud entered, he saw his daughter, if you could even still call her that, sitting with her back to him. A hairbrush was brushing through her hair, engulfed with a purple glow.
"What do you want?" She asked, exhaustion and irritation coating her childlike voice.
"Well, since you're back in town, your mother and I were wondering if you like to have a family dinner." His voice wavered. Pacifica narrowed her eyes, and the hairbrush set intself down.
"Daddy?" She asked, almost sounding like the child she hd been before.
"Yes Pumpkin?"
"Why don't you love me?" Bud was taken aback.
"What do you mean, of course I love you, Sugarcube"
"Well if you loved me, you'd want me to be happy." She turned around in her seat. "And I'm happier here, alone." Bud looked at the ground. He remembered just how powerful his daughter was. "Look me in the eye." She commanded. He obeyed, and looked at his daughter. "Oh, you don't need to be afraid of me. Just do as I say, and you'll never be hurt by me again."
"Of course, Pacifica. Have a lovely evening." He turned to leave.
"Oh, and Daddy?" He turned back. "Don't ever come here without my perission again." He looked down once more.
"Yes Pacifica."
(A/N) Alright so I've mopped myself into a corner.
As you can tell, the book is through Mabel's perspective, and it's first person. It' because it's through Mabel's perspecive that I can't do more stuff with other characters unless it's through third person. Do you like the multiple perpective format the way it is, or should I go back and change all of Mabel's perspective to third person?
