After Analeigh's last class of the day, history, Nolan met her to lead her to his car. He had already promised her that he would bring her back by the school so she could get her car.
The moment the pair walked outside, Analeigh got upset. The parking lot was practically empty, and school was just let out. At her old school everyone stayed a little after and talked to friends.
" Hey, are you okay?" she heard Nolan ask, and she shrugged her shoulders.
"Just everyone at my old school hung out in the parking lot after school, and its weird not seeing that here." Nolan sighed, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, pulling her into is side, trying to comfort her. He had no idea what it was like to move, much less to such different schools and environments.
"You'll get used to it. Just give it time. I know its very different here." She nodded and got out of his grip, to get in his car. She got in and buckled up, adjusting the vents away from her, since she was comfortable and didn't feel like having cold air blown on her.
She watched as Nolan got in the car, and started it. Green Day filled the car, and she smiled at the music.
"Hope you don't mind this cd. Its just some of my favorite songs, if you want we can turn it to the radio."
"This is fine, thank you though." Analeigh reassured him, and he nodded, putting the car in drive, and starting on their journey. The current song ended, and a very familiar tune started playing, Dear Maria, Count Me In by All Time Low. Analeigh started singing along to herself, almost too quiet for Nolan to notice but he did, and glanced at her quickly, as he continued driving.
"You like All Time Low?" he asked, and she replied with a quick, and quiet "Yes." before continuing to sing along.
Before long, about 3 songs later, all of which Analeigh knew, and sang along to, Nolan pulled up to their destination. It was an old, abandoned house. Analeigh glanced at Nolan as he gripped his steering wheel tightly, his knuckles going white. She placed her hand on his shoulder, causing him to glance her way. "Why're we here?" She asked, and he gulped, avoiding her eye contact. "Hey, its okay. Just tell me."
"Okay.. we're here because people can't see what I'm about to do. I can get in a lot of trouble with the law. I could get all of my friends in trouble with the law. Most importantly, I could get you in trouble with the law, and I can't risk that. So we're here, where nobody will see." Analeigh was confused, and slightly scared. Don't be scared. She heard Nolan say, except not out loud. She looked at him, full of confusion. Yes, you're hearing me inside your mind.
"How're you doing that?" She asked, and he smiled.
"It was something I was born with. It was in my genes, believe it or not, it's not all I can do." She looked at him, waiting for him to continue, hoping he would continue. "I can also do this." At that moment, the leaves that lay on the ground outside the car began to float in the air. Analeigh stared at them in awe. "And this." She turned to him, and in a split second he was out of the car, and in front of it, smiling at Analeigh. She was a giggling mess, and Nolan soon joined in.
"This is so cool!" and then her face fell, and he features scrunched up, something she did when she was concentrating really hard. "I don't get why you had to show me this though, and why I'm what you guys were looking for." Nolan joined her back in the car, and fiddled with his fingers.
"This is where I really need you to trust me, okay?" She nodded and he sighed, "Okay, so the others in our friend group can also do all these things. We're called 'The futures' by the cops. Anyway, in most sub-groups, which is what we are, there are 8 members. You're our eighth member. You're also our leader. You're the most powerful, and that means you can do all of this plus control our minds. I know it is a lot to take in. It's why you could hear Garrett at lunch, you were subconsciously reading his mind. It's also why Jackson said you were ready to know all of this." Analeigh turned away from him, sitting back in her seat. Could she believe him? She's never shown any signs of being able to do these things. It was weird, and this shouldn't be possible. Why her? "Listen there is something else. I really don't want to tell you, because you might freak out, but you deserve the right to know." He paused, and Analeigh motioned for him to continue. "Okay, okay. Within each sub-group is your soulmate. As you already know Jackson and Garrett are together, and Emma and Jones are together, and believe it or not Britt and Jennette are soulmates though they don't like to show they are. So that leaves us. You're my soulmate." Analeigh blushed, a lot. It was so weird hearing all of this. There is no way he can know they're soulmates. They just met. It was insane. "I know you're thinking I'm crazy, it's okay I thought this was crazy when I first heard about it too."
"No, I just need some time okay? I need time to process it all. Do you think you could take me back to the school, I just really need to be alone right now?" He nodded, and Analeigh sat back in her seat, laying her head against the window. There was no way this was real. This was all some dream she was going to wake up from any minute now. She was going to be back in her room in Illinois, and everything would be back to the way it was before the move.
Sadly, she was wrong.
