Analeigh wondered if her parents knew on her way home. They had to of, Nolan swore that her parents would have to also be Futures, its the only way she could have obtained her powers.
The moment she got in her car, she raced to her house. When she arrived around 10 minutes later she pulled in behind both of her parents cars. Suddenly her heart starting beating really fast, and she couldn't move. She was scared to know the truth. She was scared to confront them. She was just scared of all the possibilities.
"Honey, are you alright? What has happened?" Her mom asked from outside of her car. Analeigh hadn't even noticed her mom had come outside to get the mail. She opened her car door and stepped out.
"Mom, we need to talk." Her mom looked at her confused.
"Well of course, just let me grab the mail, and finish the show I was watching." Analeigh cut her off.
"No, Mom. Now!" Her mom gulped, and nodded her head, heading inside and sitting beside Analeigh's dad on the couch. Analeigh paced the floor in front of them, fiddling with her fingers, and biting her lip.
"Analeigh, what's wrong? Just tell us what happened." Her mom urged, and Analeigh stopped mid step and looked at them, tears in her eyes.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Her parents both looked at her like they didn't know what was going on. "Cut the crap, guys. I know, okay? I know I'm a future. I know I'm the leader of seven other futures. Why wouldn't you tell me? Is that why we moved? So I could meet my group?" Her parents faces fell, and her dad got up, and pulled her into a hug.
"We were scared, there is so much that goes along with being a future. We didn't want to stress you out even more." He pulled away, and looked into her eyes. "And yes we moved when Nolan got in touch with us, explaining about how he was picking up on your thoughts." She pulled away, and began pacing again.
"You're telling me you moved us across the country because some guy said he could hear my thoughts. How did you know it was real? What if it was all a scam?" She yelled turning towards her parents. Her dad chuckled.
"Want to know how we knew it was real? Because when you were little you would always draw pictures of you and a boy. Whenever we would ask who that was you would reply with 'Nolan'. We would always ask your teachers if a Nolan went to your school, and there wasn't one. You knew of Nolan before he even knew he was a future. Which was a lot quicker than you." Analeigh felt her face heat up. Why couldn't she remember doing this? You'd think she would.
"Also, your soulmate can start picking up on your thoughts around three years into using their powers." Her mom piped up. Analeigh glanced between the two of them, before continuing.
"Okay, so what else comes along with being a future? Nolan mentioned something about getting in trouble with the cops, or something. What is all of that about?" Her dad glanced at her mom, and she nodded for him to continue.
"The cops are out to get us. The government doesn't like the thought of having humans with more abilities than most. They think we will become the superior race, and take their jobs from them. If they catch us, the inject us with a shot that very harshly takes our powers away, sometimes it even results in death. Analeigh you can't get caught. If you get caught all of the other members in your group will fell the same pain you do, and death if that comes out of it." Analeigh found herself seated in a chair, doing what she does when shes nervous, fiddling with her fingers and biting her lips.
"Well if I just never use my powers then we will be good, right?" Her mom smiled fondly at her.
"Yes, but if you've used them in anyway, you've got to learn to control them, or it'll end badly." Analeigh sunk down in the chair, running her fingers through her hair. "You used them didn't you?" Her mom asked, and she slowly nodded, explaining how she accidentally read Garrett's mind today at lunch.
The rest of the night her parents talked to her about being in a future in more detail, especially being the leader. There was a lot more than came along with it. Not only was she telepathic and telekinetic(which included teleporting), she could control minds, and if she was really special she could have another power develop. The likelihood of that was slim, but her parents urged her to keep an open mind, because even without it she was very powerful. It was a lot to take in, once again, and soon she asked to go to her room to think about everything in peace and quiet.
She weighed the possibilities over and over again in her head. What if she never learned to control her powers? What if she never used them again? She was sure her group would be okay without her, Jackson seemed to be doing a good job leading them before she came along, why would she ruin that? The rest of the group members already trusted him, they all grew up together, why would they suddenly let the new girl come in and change everything?
Her mind was all of the place, one minute she was okay with it, and the next, she thought going through with it would be the worst decision she had ever made. This was just something she had to do though, not just for her, but for seven other people who now were going to look towards her for guidance. It was a scary thought. Coming in and winning over their trust and respect, but she couldn't just not do it, and she had to learn to control her powers. Her mom said it would end badly if she didn't and she can't risk hurting seven other people.
So she laid there, thinking of how she was going to tell Nolan, and then it hit her. If it didn't work then she'd just tell him tomorrow at school, but it was worth a shot.
Nolan are you there? She thought. No response came, and she gave up after a few minutes. She rolled over, plugging her phone up and pulling her covers up. And then it happened.
Yeah, what's up? She smiled at the thought that it worked. She did something right.
I'm ready for this. When do we start?
