I walked into the penthouse and saw Mark seated in front of the laptop typing furiously. He didn't see me come in.
I sighed and plopped beside him on the couch.
"Hey. You're back. How did it go with Valerio?" He asked.
I remembered the kiss I shared with Valerio. I thought of telling him about it but after his word of caution this morning, I decided to omit that part. Instead I said "It was good. We've talked a bit about quite a few things. He'll be here tomorrow as well. We need to finalise the partnership agreement."
"Ah. I see. That's good I guess. The sooner we're done here, the faster we can get home." He said frustrated.
"Aww. Are you missing home or are you missing your sluts?" I asked him.
He sighed and replied "They're not sluts. Just women who don't see the need for a commitment. Besides, I've got work to do. We left a budget meeting unfinished and moreover, I have to go see mum this weekend. She's been at my throat about it and I'll only get to hear more of it if I don't meet her."
"Yes. I remember her telling me in graphic details of what she'd do to you if you didn't turn up. Also, they're sluts if all they can think of is getting into bed with you just to have paparazzi follow them around. I've got you rid of two such women." I said smiling proudly.
"I'm too tired to even disagree with you. Besides, you've done me a favour anyway. None of them caught my attention. Let's call it a night, shall we?" He asked yawning.
"Wait. Did you eat at all?" I asked him.
"Um, No. I was too busy with work." He replied sheepishly.
I rolled my eyes at him and said "Come on. Help me whip some dinner for you. I don't want you to sleep on empty stomach as I have noticed that you didn't eat anything since we've gotten here." I said walking into the kitchen.
He didn't say anything. He just walked into the kitchen behind me. I was glad that Charles considered my love for cooking even here in Milan. Otherwise we'd have ended up in a hotel with me having to order food every now and then.
I was one of those people who woke in the middle of the night for a quick snack. And the worst part was that I was always indecisive about what I want to binge on. I usually take 5 minutes to stare at the contents and then leisurely pull out what I want.
I looked for food and saw that the refrigerator wasn't stocked. I said "Let's go out."
"Now? It's late. Both of us are tired. I'll be fine. Let's just sleep." said Mark.
I wasn't okay with it because I knew how little he slept on a hungry stomach. "Nope. Food is going into your system one way or another. So don't argue with me." I said. That shut his protests and we went out for a late dinner.
I searched the internet for a place nearby. The name Panino Giusto popped on the screen. Since we were close-by, it didn't take us long to get to the place.
The place was bustling with people even this late at night. He went for a baked ham panini with a green tea and I had a tiramisu. I checked my phone and saw that I had three missed calls from Claire and one message from her with a very colourful language. "Is something wrong?"asked Mark.
"No. Claire has been trying to reach me and also has threatened me with bodily harm if I don't get back to her by tomorrow. I didn't realise she called as my phone has been on silent ever since the hospital visit." I said for which he laughed and said "I will take my sister's word for it because I know how she is when she doesn't have her way with things. You're coming home with me right?"
"Of course. I won't miss visiting Martha for anything in this world."I said smiling.
We finished our meal and walked back to the Maserati at our service. The driver opened the door for us. As soon as we got in, I could feel my eyelids droop. I fell asleep in the car and the last thing I remembered was having a set of lips press softly on my forehead.
