Chapter Three- Aren't What They Seem

Luke-

I can't believe this. Liz is back and she's better than ever. The tips of her blonde hair are dyed brown, it's pin straight and she stands in front of me with shorts and tank top on her perfect body. I can't breathe.

"hey, Baby Doll" I say smoothly and she smiles.

"hey" she flips her hair over her shoulder and shoves her hands in her back pockets. She bites down on her bottom lip like she always does when she's nervous. "how are you?" the girl asks casually.

I nod in response and it's taking all of me not to just grab her and plant kisses all over her body.

"I've missed you." Is all I can say and she nods. I know what's coming next.

"Luke, I wouldn't have left if you would've listened to me. I was gonna talk to you and see if you wanted to go with me-" she tries to explain and I feel a wall of stupidity hit me.

I just walked out on her and the next day she's just gone for a year and she doesn't contact me at all, until now.

" I paniced." Is all I have to say that and she smiles weakly. "well it doesn't matter now. You're back." I say pulling her into a hug. "we can start over."

"uhm" she hesitates and now I can't breathe again. "actually we can't. I'm actually here with my new boyfriend, Ezra." she responds and her blue eyes fall to the ground. Liz checks her phone and sighs. "that's him. He wants me at the barn. I'll talk to you later. Nice seeing you, Luke."

The barn? Where me and her were together all the time? The place she gave up her virginity to me? That barn? Wow.

"you too, Baby Doll." I finally say and she turns and starts to walk back from where she came.

The woman I love just walked away from me.

Liz-

I make it back to the barn and Ezra is standing there, red faced.

"who were you with?" he asks insecurely. I look at him confused. How would he know I was with someone? "who were you with?" he repeats, more stern this time. I stay silent. "was it that 'Luke ' guy people keep mentioning to you? Who is that anyway?" he shouts, stepping closer to me. I can feel his breath hitting my face.

"he...he's my ex-boyfriend. We broke up right before I left for London." I explain and then I snap my eyes from the floor up to him . "how would you even know I was with someone? Stalking me now?" I put my hand on my hip and he takes a deep breath.

"I'm looking out for you." he says through his teeth, trying to sound relaxed.

"No you're not! You're terrified that I'm going to leave you! Why? Not like you were thinking about me when you were sleeping with Clara!" I can't say anything else before the back of his and connects with my face and I'm taken back.

"you should know not to talk to me like that." he warns stepping closer. I feel tears come to my eyes. He's never hit me before but I have to stay strong for this argument.

"I have put up with so much shit! I don't even know what I am to you!" I shout and it's his turn to stay silent. "you have slept with mostly all of my friends! How's Megan and the baby?" I continue and I feel his fist connect with my eye this time and I fall to the floor covering my eye. "you've changed, Ezra." is all I can say before he stomps out of the barn. Hopefully going home.

After I finish taking off my makeup, I look at my eye. It's not swollen yet but it probably will be. I love Ezra but tonight was horrible. I see a bruise start to form where he back handed me and I just sigh.

I don't know what happened to him.

The first couple of weeks were great. He took me to class, picked me up, brought me things, and everything was happy until Clara ,my room mate, moved in and one night I come home to hear her moaning and screaming in her bedroom. I figured it was just another guy she met at one of the many parties she went to, so I ignored it. The next morning she walks out of her room wearing Ezra's shirt. That started another fight between him and I but he never hit me. I stayed with him because I love him, and he loves me but I hope he just goes home now. I'd rather not see him the rest of summer.

I crawl into bed and close my eyes falling into a dreamless sleep.
